This is tremendous. Easily one of the best Doctor Who novels. Suspenseful. Politically prophetic. Pitch-perfect writing for Capaldi and Coleman. I loved it, as did my teenage son. Wide audience appeal.

I’m so glad I’ve found EE. I’m going to be reading a lot more of her work, and looking into her lectures on creative writing. I’ve been a lifelong vampire fan and this is easily one of the best novels I’ve ever encountered. It reads a bit like A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night watches. I love the traditional vampire elements being reimagined in a way that is classic without being cheesy. (The cane really works beautifully, for example.) And you can’t get much more compelling than this awesome vampire character.

I’m so glad this audiobook was released. I’ve been trying to get a copy of the novel for years, but it is so in-demand it is $498 on eBay. I’m happy to report that this epic, moving story was worth the wait! And to have the text read to you by the man himself is the biggest treat. A Stitch in Time really fills out the universe, rewards us with a backstory worthy of our favorite tailor, and addresses head-on my biggest disappointment with the show; the interrupted relationship between Garak and Bashir. A must for Trek fans.

Historia
Maud Martha Brown is a little girl growing up on the South Side of 1940s Chicago. Amidst the crumbling taverns and overgrown yards, she dreams: of New York, romance, her future. She admires dandelions, learns to drink coffee, falls in love, decorates her kitchenette, visits the Jungly Hovel, guts a chicken, buys hats, gives birth. But her lighter-skinned husband has dreams, too: of the Foxy Cats Club, other women, war. And the 'scraps of baffled hate'—a certain word from a saleswoman, that visit to the cinema, the cruelty of a department store Santa Claus—are always there.

Historia
In this extraordinary book, Sarah Polley explores what it is to live in one’s body, in a constant state of becoming, learning, and changing. Each of these six essays captures a piece of Polley’s life as she remembers it, while at the same time examining the fallibility of memory, the mutability of reality in the mind, and the possibility of experiencing the past anew, as the person she is now but was not then. As Polley writes, the past and present are in a “reciprocal pressure dance.”

Deeply moving, brilliant, and beautifully written
Revisado: 04-08-23
Stories We Tell is one of the best films ever made and I show it to my students every semester in Intro to Film. Eager to learn more about Sarah Polley and her compelling, charismatic family members, I read this book expecting to love it. I was right, but it was ten times better than I expected. One of the most important books of our time. It should be required reading in every high school and college. Seriously. Tremendous. I cried ten times. If there is any message to take away from this, it is believe women when they tell you they are suffering (or have been wronged) and to be mindful of the safety of children at all times.

Revisado: 02-14-23
I got this book because I’ve been on a Star Trek tear on Paramount+ and I’ve only just discovered I love Voyager and Captain Janeway. Fannish as my motivation may have been, I’m so glad I read Born With Teeth because this was a truly wonderful memoir. The stories of Kate Mulgrew’s relationship with her parents, her giving a baby up for adoption, and her romance in Ireland are so beautifully told, I feel like I know her personally now. And what an amazing person she is.
