Historia
Boeing is a century-old titan of industry. It played a major role in the early days of commercial flight, World War II bombing missions, and moon landings. The plane maker remains a cornerstone of the U.S. economy, as well as a linchpin in the awesome routine of modern air travel. But in 2018 and 2019, two crashes of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 killed 346 people. The crashes exposed a shocking pattern of malfeasance, leading to the biggest crisis in the company’s history—and one of the costliest corporate scandals ever.

Unnecessarily dramatic
Revisado: 01-14-22
This book suffered from too many events where the author spent more time grinding his axe with what seem to be purely personal issues with some of the Boeing execs rather than focusing on facts and letting them speak for themselves. The actual factual research was modest and not terribly deep, it actually seemed like he spent more time reading newspaper articles or watching Fox News and taking material from those. I am no trump fan but this book also took unnecessary pot shots at trump that did nothing to promote the underlying theme or book objectives. Overall pretty weak.

Historia
Democracies can die with a coup d'état - or they can die slowly. This happens most deceptively when in piecemeal fashion, with the election of an authoritarian leader, the abuse of governmental power and the complete repression of opposition. All three steps are being taken around the world - not least with the election of Donald Trump - and we must all understand how we can stop them.

Professors did not connect the dots
Revisado: 03-13-18
This book seemed very interesting, and started off with a very fact-based analysis of how other democracies became authoritarian regimes. The professors identify several key factors that seem to suggest that a democracy may face existential challenges. However, they never connect the dots to current USA situation and instead wander away from their factual research and join into the ranting and raving that is pervasive in the USA today. The most telling aspect of the book is in chapter 7 or 8 when the authors detail a report card that demonstrates their key factors for each regime identified, and then summarize what happened to each regime. In most cases, the regime described that suffers from some subset of these factors nonetheless stayed democratic, and the authors never really identified what the truly key factors are that should be concerning. The premise behind the book seemed promising but these authors did not connect the dots and to be honest this book feels like something that was rushed to publication to take advantage of high market awareness/concern. Disappointing.

Historia
ESPN began as an outrageous gamble with a lineup that included Australian Rules Football, rodeo, and a rinky-dinky clip show called Sports Center. Today the empire stretches far beyond television into radio, magazines, mobile phones, restaurants, video games and more, while ESPN's personalities have become global superstars to rival the sports icons they cover.

Story is ok; performance not very good
Revisado: 10-01-11
This book had a lot of interesting content and background. It got a bit long and rambling towards the end, where they spent more time on more minute details from recent activities vs. the early days (which were more interesting). The performance, particularly parts read by the author, were not very good. The author's voice is very scratchy and hard to listen to. Also annoying was that they couldn't be troubled to pronounce many sports figures' names correctly.

This is a great story by DeMille. John Corey continues to rock. The narration by Scott Brick is fantastic.
