Historia
No discussion of great modern authors is complete without mention of Cormac McCarthy, whose rare and blazing talent makes his every work a true literary event. A grand addition to the American literary canon, Suttree introduces readers to Cornelius Suttree, a man who abandons his affluent family to live among a dissolute array of vagabonds along the Tennessee river.

A largely pointless story
Revisado: 06-02-19
I don't know how well I can explain why I didn't like this book, I just wasn't fond of the meandering that is McCarthy's hallmark. There is no transition between scenes, everything blears together in the stream of consciousness story of Sutree.
There isn't any part of this book that I found overly entertaining. The philosophical bits were somewhat engaging, where Sutree is in a fever dream and speaks about the nature of things. However, overall the story is not one that I like, and I only listened to the whole thing out of a completionist compulsion.

Historia
Zero is just one of 20,000 people aboard a spaceship bound for a new planet set to be colonized. The journey is over a century long but luckily, everyone is in stasis, so they’ll be safe and sound asleep during the trip. Everyone that is, except for Zero, whose pod has malfunctioned, waking him up a hundred years early. His initial excitement in roaming the ship alone quickly turns to a heart-stopping interstellar adventure when a family of space pirates show up, trying to hijack the ship and take the colonizers hostage.

Excellent full cast production, and a nice story

I really enjoyed everyone's voice in this full cast production. The story is also suspenseful and very cute.

Revisado: 04-25-19
I didn't really like this story, but at least it was free and something to listen to while I walked my dog. It was a very cliche and boring horror story that wasn't well written enough to make me care

Historia
Best-selling author Bryan Burrough recently made a shocking discovery: The small town of Temple, Texas, where he had grown up, had harbored a dark secret. One of his high school classmates, Danny Corwin, was a vicious serial killer. In this chilling tale, Burrough raises important questions of whether serial killers can be recognized before they kill or rehabilitated after they do. It is also a story of Texas politics and power that led the good citizens of the town of Temple to enable a demon who was their worst nightmare.

Not extremely captivating
Revisado: 04-22-19
I found this book fine, but not overly captivating. Honestly it was just something that I listened to while walking my dog. Though it was by no means bad, it wasn't good either.

Historia
This is the first volume in a bold new series that tells the stories of all peoples, connecting historical events from Europe to the Middle East to the far coast of China, while still giving weight to the characteristics of each country. Susan Wise Bauer provides both sweeping scope and vivid attention to the individual lives that give flesh to abstract assertions about human history. This narrative history employs the methods of "history from beneath" - literature, epic traditions, private letters, and accounts - to connect kings and leaders with the lives of those they ruled.

Christian bias, and too brief
Revisado: 04-20-19
Maybe I didn't read the description of this book thoroughly enough, but I didn't really expect the Christian bias. Bauer uses the Bible as a historical source and does not apply any scrutiny to the Bible. She is good at scrutinizing any other source.
Also, I didn't learn much from this because of the scope of the history. There wasn't much focus on any one topic enough for me to retain it.

Learned a lot
Revisado: 03-06-19
I learned a lot about Chinese politics. It's something I've had a vague interest in, but never really researched. I knew almost nothing coming into this novel and it was very accessible and the author really did his best not to sound too biased. He tried to show positives often, but he did focus a lot on scandals, which are more interesting honestly.
I would highly recommend this book. It's told through a series of interviews that the author conducted while in China. Sometimes with non fiction I'm worried it will be dry or hard to get through, but this was entertaining from the beginning to end.

Horrible story with horrible things happening
Revisado: 11-04-18
I learned after I was seven hours into this audio book that it is heavily abridged. That makes sense, whereas this shortened audio book definitely does not.
This book is about a crew that is ship wrecked in artic waters, and it details how the crew tries to save itself. I will say the book was good and fun in the beginning and at the end, but the middle drags so hard and it's so hard to care about.

In the rigid theocracy of Salem, Massachusetts, rumors that women are practicing witchcraft galvanize the town. In a searing portrait of a community engulfed by panic—with ruthless prosecutors, and neighbors eager to testify against neighbor—The Crucible famously mirrors the anti-Communist hysteria that held the United States in its grip in the 1950’s.

The recording is awful
Revisado: 08-15-18
The recording of the audio is so bad that I couldn't understand a word they were saying. One minute the voice actors were screaming and it hurt my ears, then they were whispering so quietly that I couldn't hear. They didn't enunciate their words. It sounds like a TV soap opera that was recorded for no concern of audio only listeners, despite this being a radio production.

Performance is good, story is powerful
Revisado: 12-23-17
I enjoyed this book. I listened to it pretty much all in one sitting. My only complaint is that the chronology can be a bit hard to follow. Also, this book is very "literary" for lack of a better word. Even the dialogue is consistently too eloquent to be believed. Still, a great book with a powerful message though.

Amazing story
Revisado: 12-22-17
Dune is an amazingly intricate tale that really weaves together the lives of so many characters. The ending is rather sudden, but I suppose why there are many more books in the series.
The performance was okay, but sometimes characters were voiced inconsistently, and it annoyed me on more than one occasion. Also, this is a collaboration with a male and female so I don't know why females aren't consistently voiced by the female voice actor. That's really my only complaint
