Historia
In the first book of this brilliant series, Stephen King introduces listeners to one of his most powerful creations: Roland of Gilead, The Last Gunslinger. He is a haunting figure, a loner on a spellbinding journey into good and evil. In his desolate world, which frighteningly mirrors our own, Roland tracks The Man in Black, encounters an enticing woman named Alice, and begins a friendship with the boy from New York named Jake.

Must King shove his politics at the CUSTOMER?
Revisado: 08-17-21
As a long time fan of King, I'm done. His hatred for Trump is shoved into this story repeatedly. It isn't done well. It is not a relevant part of the story or the character. It's forced and unnecessary. And doesn't work. I would bet he wouldn't have done this, before he was as successful as he has become. It's insulting to the reader.
I had never read the Dark Tower series. I used credits to put the first one in my library. I'm returning it.

NO Personal Politics
Revisado: 03-26-21
In the first few chapters, I found the subject and it's unfolding interesting. As I listened, I wanted to say
"ok ok move along". Just too many small details of Vanessa's day, on and on it went. I have never had a problem with the tedious length of books by Stephen King, English lit etc. But, this was not interesting enough to add anything of substance to the story. HOWEVER, when the author threw in gratuitous slams at Republicans, twice, without context, without it giving the reader/listener any more content, it was apparent that she just HAD to make a political statement. I do hope she realizes that there is bound to be a good portion of her audience who will be insulted. I'm not easily insulted. But, I do know when I'm being slapped in the face. Ultimately, a novelist is an entertainer. Write a good story. Keep gratuitous political slams out of it.

Politics Here?
Revisado: 02-05-21
I'm an avid Connelly fan. At least, I was. I've listened and enjoyed all the Bosch series and have enjoyed Micky Haller almost as much as Bosch. Peter Giles is perfect for this genre. HOWEVER, when an entertainer, (I would put a writer of novels in this category) just HAS to insert his politics into the story, where it is totally unnecessary to the plot or story line, I AM DONE. The love story is over. Ruined.

Gone With The Wind-light. Every single Southern plantation pre-Civil War cliché that could be dredged up, was. I should’ve read the reviews. The reader did a good job of the myriad voices, multiple types of southern dialects , both male and female. However, there seems to be an ordinate usage of the words again and against. This reader, speaks in a neutral Midwestern voice when she is not speaking for the southern characters. But, insists on pronouncing again and against as agAyn. & agaYnst. It becomes distracting and annoying. Also, throughout the book a character says something, then the reader has to explain it to their listener. This can’t be blamed on the reader of course. I will chalk off to the writer thinking the listeners are idiots. It’s quite condescending to the listener. Akin to someone telling a joke. Then, explaining the punch line. Altogether I found this book unbearable.

This lush novel, set in 1766 England and America, evokes an era ripe with riot and revolution, from the teeming streets of London to the sprawling grounds of a Virginia plantation. Mack McAsh burns with the desire to escape his life of slavery in Scottish coal mines while Lizzie Hallim is desperate to shed a life of sheltered subjugation to her spineless husband. United in America, their only chance for freedom lies beyond the Western frontier - if they're brave enough to take it.

I listened to this to the end. But, knew how it would go very quickly. It was just the details to get through. Very disappointing. I didn't know Ken Follett was a romance author. the reader was very good. But, it was just soooooooooooo thin The only interesting bits were the information about the Scottish slaves. As a n Irish/Scott, I'll have to look into that further. i thought I wanted to read the Kingsbridge Series. But, no. Not my cup of tea.

Historia
The tide is turning against the colonists in the Revolutionary War, and 18-year-old Elizabeth Morris cannot sit by idly. Quietly disdainful of her Tory parents, who drag her along to society events and welcome a British soldier into their home during their occupation of New York City, Elizabeth decides to take matters into her own hands. She realizes that, as a young woman, no one around her believes that she can comprehend the profound implications of being a nation at war - she is, effectively, invisible. And she can use this invisibility to her advantage.

I have been disappointed in the other free books I've listened to. I almost didn't listen to this one, for that reason. I'm so glad I did. It was well written and the voice actor did a great job.

Historia
The ancient church fathers taught many things about end-time prophecy. They taught the Second Coming would be approximately 2,000 years after the First Coming (AD 32 and AD 2032). The actual writings of church fathers Irenaeus (AD 170), Hippolytus (AD 210), and Ephrem (AD 350) identify three of the ten nations that will become part of the Antichrist’s government and where the Antichrist will be born. Half a story!?!
Revisado: 11-12-19
I was surprise when the story suddenly came to a halt. It had just ramped up and come to a point where it should then have unfolded and wrapped up. It was like reading a book and finding out halfway through that someone had stolen the rest of the book.

Hailed by The New York Times as "a marvel of storytelling", The Things They Carried’s portrayal of the boots-on-the-ground experience of soldiers in the Vietnam War is a landmark in war writing. Now, three-time Emmy Award winner-Bryan Cranston, star of the hit TV series Breaking Bad, delivers an electrifying performance that walks the book’s hallucinatory line between reality and fiction and highlights the emotional power of the spoken word.

I stopped listening after an hour.
Revisado: 09-23-19
I ordered this book because Bryan Cranston is the narrator. I didn't get a chance to enjoy him. By an hour into it, I was struggling to keep listening. Much of it is a list, another list, another list of "stuff". While i get the importance of the list being the title of the book, It became unbearable to go any further. Very disappointing.
