I can't get enough of this book and the related material. if the Manson saga has haunted you , this book will make you understand why. Its frightening not because of the ghastly crimes, but the clandestine excess they're caught up in. Manson seems like less the victim in the face of the organizations and covert interests involved . a must read

Historia
Over two grim nights in Los Angeles, the young followers of Charles Manson murdered seven people, including the actress Sharon Tate, then eight months pregnant. With no mercy and seemingly no motive, the Manson Family followed their leader's every order. Twenty years ago, when journalist Tom O'Neill was reporting a magazine piece about the murders, he worried there was nothing new to say. Then he unearthed shocking evidence of a cover-up behind the "official" story, including police carelessness, legal misconduct, and potential surveillance by intelligence agents.

chaos an opus, important account of culture
Revisado: 10-18-22
I think the 20 years devoted to this opus were well invested. it's a man's account of his obsession. it inspires our obsession opening the door to 1000 more this less about manson than about gangs including the CIA,. Hollywood elites, LACS, LAPD, FBI, biker gangs, media, justice system ,Arayan Brotherhood, prison systems, feder gov, the state unilaterally barring parole for ancient killers who were young and victims themselves Tom leaves us with more questions than answers but we understand that things aren't always what we are told Question Everything is his fearless mantra and what he achieved is monumental. you will never judge others so quickly or accept glib excuses again. the CIA is an insidious influence we can only conquer in unity JFK wanted it shut down. we'd love in a very different world if the covert sine hadn't killed him to cover their existence. the writer is lucky he's alive but it was not going to help the CIA to kill him. hell and reviews are more effective weapons in a well connected world. I buy my books here but I found chaos for free on YouTube I need the notes and will get the hard back or legit copy soon. if youre broke welcome to the club. look it up on the video channel where it's all sanctioned and you'll be ready to buy one you can't lose that comes with the documentation when your ship or stimulus bribes come in

Rock and roll in the BC (Before Cooper) era was a tamer, milder world. In Who I Really Am, Cooper’s latest addition to Audible’s Words + Music series, we learn how the boa-wearing (not the feathered kind) maestro arrived at a show and sound - let’s call it AC for After Cooper - that has entertained millions of kids while terrifying parents in equal measure. Cooper drew inspiration from Saturday matinee horror movies, applied a "no such thing as too much" attitude, and hitched it to a kick-ass rock and roll band.

love Alice
Revisado: 10-17-22
I have to admit I've never been a big fan of Alice Cooper or any guy who painted his face to get on stage and write juvenile songs about burning down schools and getting laid in the backseat of somebody.but this was free after reading or listening to I should say a book about Laurel Canyon and the weird scenes inside the gold mine there I was curious about Alice cooper. he was a big deal when I was growing up and all the boys in school like them. I was more of an intellectual and if anybody from that period appealed to me it had to be Neil Young. of course he was a goner once I found the talking heads and nobody but nobody can beat Iggy Pop who is still my favorite. but I listened to the book because of the things he talked about including his antics with Frank Zappa and how his band ended up doing something crazy that was also cool and kind of Christian. using a colloquial tone and singing in between episodes Alice Cooper talks about growing up in a pretty good family and having a pretty good life from the very get-go. there were struggles but he might look like a corpse but that's part of the appeal. I was Cooper is a infinitely optimistic and benevolent soul. he's gone through his fair share of struggles but doesn't lack the courage to admit he caused himself a lot of problems. I especially like the story of how he met his wife and the fact that he's still with her. it's also wonderful to know he's performing with the Hollywood vampires and keeping Johnny Depp spirits up. he's been the inspiration for Marilyn Manson and other ghouls in the rock and roll genre and as funny as it seems he's kind of there mentor which is a good thing because this guy isn't some blood drinking drug taking maniac. well I don't believe in organized religion I do believe in Jesus and the lessons that he offers. I think that Alice Cooper learned those lessons well and I'm glad to have him out there spreading the good word of our Lord who isn't some guy in the sky in a big robe throwing lightning bolts which I wish you would once in awhile. God bless Alice Cooper and the Hollywood vampires as well which sounds sort of oxymoronic but hey that's the way we live

More than 40 years ago Charles Manson and his mostly female commune killed nine people, among them the pregnant actress Sharon Tate. It was the culmination of a criminal career that author Jeff Guinn traces back to Manson’s childhood. Guinn interviewed Manson’s sister and cousin, neither of whom had ever previously cooperated with an author. Childhood friends, cellmates, and even some members of the Manson family have provided new information about Manson’s life. Guinn has made discoveries about the night of the Tate murders, answering unresolved questions.

I loved it the first but listening now... I read
Revisado: 10-17-22
so I read it a couple more and it remained one of my favorite reads about Manson and just in general. reading the pros of this writer is a pleasure to be sure. he's a considered one of the best True crime writers around right now and up until listening to this book another few times I would have agreed that this was true. there's no doubt that this book lends itself to a lot of things we have never heard about Manson especially as far as his adventures go in San Francisco. the fact that he followed around the diggers that he was called The Gardener and that he watched the goings on so closely speaks a lot about him and how he definitely absorbed the culture. it also is unique in the fact that it was able to give the girls a deeper more complex character.. Mary Brunner is the kind of girl people don't notice playing quiet smart but not exactly vivacious. obviously even a pimp as poorly gifted as Manson was could easily work someone like Mary who was lonely and working in a library at Berkeley when they met. looking at where Mary ended up it's safe to say that to some extent Charlie injected her with some spirit probably a lot of other things as well. what makes me lose my respect for the book is the fact that I've read so many books and watch so many podcasts and discovered so many things that Jeff Quinn overlooked. certainly his research was obsessive and impressive but the connections that he overlooks between Dr Roger smith, Jolly West CIA cannot be just an oversight or the result of poor research. obviously this writer knows what he's doing and he's very meticulous about what he does. he only scrapes by the relationship that Charlie has with his probation officer as that probation officers only client. instead the free clinic comes off looking like they are saintly and well-meaning when it's clear there was something more going on there. it's probably not safe to immerse yourself in too much research I understand that and his book is pretty comprehensive already but it doesn't really mean much or hold much water if it's not honest and a credibility is lost by the oversights. do I recommend the book? absolutely. it's a great book and probably the best one to introduce you to the Manson saga. while it isn't rejecting the Helter Skelter nonsense the prosecutor put in place and turned into his own best seller perhaps the biggest seller in True crime history but it doesn't really go beyond the pill. yes I have been swayed somewhat by chaos a book that's making a lot of ways by Tom O'Neill but that book isn't really about Charlie or the family they are just part of it. the book chaos has a far different purpose than biographers. it's been some time since I've actually had the text but I'm sure that it lacks the documents and other evidence that speaks to the weakness of the motive bugliosi used to further his interest. his interest by the way was not Justice and bugliosi was probably working for someone besides the city of Los Angeles. obviously he was serving his own interest but it seems that his behavior during the trial and for many years afterwards reflects a nefarious and covert influence. again read this book the narrator is not so great and I think that if Jeff gwynn would have read it it would have been even worse because when I see him on interviews the sound of his voice annoys me. his voice as a writer however where you're reading it yourself is quite compelling and engaging. the book is well written. it's organized so that you can understand it and you'll probably want to go back because it is so creatively successful in bringing you to the hate to the ranch and inside the toad that squirming inside Charlie's head. those are just tactics any writer uses of course if they worth their salt but never undressed to make the power of a good liar.

In this poignant and disturbing memoir of lost innocence, coercion, survival, and healing, Dianne Lake chronicles her years with Charles Manson, revealing for the first time how she became the youngest member of his Family and offering new insights into one of the 20th century's most notorious criminals and life as one of his "girls". While much has been written about Charles Manson, this riveting account from an actual Family member is a chilling portrait that recreates in vivid detail one of the most horrifying chapters in modern American history.

snake lake gets her say at last
Revisado: 10-17-22
Snake lake was never particularly a standout character beyond her name and most of the narratives that involved Charlie Manson who met her when she was just 13 or 14 years old. her parents and the stories she tells about growing up with them are exceptionally interesting and that's surprising to me. her father is or was an artist who read things like Jack Kerouac and developed a anti-establishment perspective while I'm sure that he was quite bright he didn't have very practical qualities. he trades their house for a trailer and promptly brexit on the way to california. he leaves his wife for a girlfriend and somehow she manages to make something of their lives in the projects. I wish I knew more about snakes mother. she was an early example of womanhood really meeting a challenge and it bothers me to hear so many people indict snakes family based on this book which I don't think was her intention. it's hard to understand why people act it the way they did but it was a different time and place.
a snake tells it she was happy but she missed her father but not nearly as much as her mother did. her mother's devotion to him is otherworldly and probably worked against her daughter's best interest. to be fair this was a time when people thought that children were like little adults and had some f***** up ideas about a lot of things. when they're in the hog farm living in a bread truck wavy gravy decides that pretty Snake lake is a liability. unfortunately her parents assume that she's old enough to have sex and do drugs. I don't think that the little girl was necessarily interested in those things to be honest but she had been abused by her grandfather and her father himself gave her some mixed messages. she ends up running away with some creep who leaves her to send for herself then when he comes back he expects her to give his father sexual favors. she hitchhikes down the coast and received some compassion along the way. I'm sure that when Charlie's girls saw her and recognized her because her mother asked them to keep an eye out for Diane she was probably over the moon to find some connection to her former life as a child which she still was. she falls in love with Charlie she had these grandiose romantic ideas. she's looking for that fractured fairy tale but she's not going to find it or maybe she did on the other hand when she moved in with the new family in her life. I didn't think I was going to like this book but it's honest and it's interesting beyond the sensationalized story of Sharon Tate's murder and the strange way Manson controlled his followers. to look at it from a girl's perspective it's almost heartbreaking because she's in love with Charlie as much as a girl her age can be. when she tries to get him to pay some attention to her he ends up sodomizing her brutally. I don't know that she would have defected if things had gone differently. she was too young to have a backbone and the girls that were around her were also Bewitched by charlie. I don't want to make it sound like I see Charlie as the most evil dangerous monster in the world. I don't clearly Charlie was a victim too. that doesn't change the fact that he was also a pimp and while the girls didn't know it they were his whores. I'm sad that Dennis Wilson didn't try to help the girls escape him but he too was under the influence of that time and place and of course charlie. I am glad that snake got out I hear Ruth Ann is doing well which gives me some peace because if I had run into Charlie when I was their age I would have been a gone or two. I hear that snake is doing quite well although she didn't really write much about her life now except to say she had married two men after being widowed by the first one who loved her and understood what had happened in ways that most people can't. she has children and they've gotten over the shock of discovering their mother was part of a murderous band of hippies. but I can imagine that they were a little afraid at first. seeing her talk on podcast and an interviews it gives you an idea of how intelligent she is and how lucky she was that she wasn't caught up in the actual murders.

well done
Revisado: 10-10-22
although this series follows a questionable narrative that has been established as the truth and clearly isn't, it's approach to deconstructing the life and times of Charlie Manson is effective. juxtaposing the murders to the man's youth is surprisingly effective. the production itself is tight and professional. Indeed you're riveted to attention by the narration which doesn't reduce it all to gore. there is enough distance between the narrative and the questions to make this a viable version of the murders simply because it's devoted to the years before and after Charlie was conceived. It goes a long way to explaining who Charlie is and that's really what most of us want to understand.

The very strange but nevertheless true story of the dark underbelly of a 1960s hippie utopia. Laurel Canyon in the 1960s and early 1970s was a magical place where a dizzying array of musical artists congregated to create much of the music that provided the soundtrack to those turbulent times. But there was a dark side to that scene as well. Many didn't make it out alive, and many of those deaths remain shrouded in mystery to this day.

Leslie Morgan Steiner met the love of her life at age 22, soon after graduating from Harvard and starting her first job at Seventeen magazine in New York. She fell for his self-deprecating wit and street smarts - and especially his unabashed worship of her. They married and spent four years together. At first Leslie felt like the woman of his dreams. Then she discovered her husband had been beaten as a child, taught by his parents that intimacy and rage danced together.

An Authentic Account of DV
Revisado: 05-02-22
The story is ordinary and honest. Leslie is an overachiever from a upper middle class family whose future is full of promise. She graduates from Harvard, gets a job on 17 as a writer and meets the perfect guy. Anyone familiar with DV and disordered personalities will immediately see the red flags the young woman misses. As soon as he has her boxed in by giving up her place to move in with him when they become engaged, the abuse escalates. It’s not physical violence but psychological and emotional abuse that ultimately wears down her boundaries . Eventually this man is beating her brutally and often. Small details like the dogs horror every time the man beats this woman along with her own struggle to understand how she goes on day after day despite the daily fear and bruises. After her first sexual abuse which involves choking her out followed by spooning , Leslie finds herself shutting down. She wants to seek help but shame and her now low self esteem conspire against her. This is an highly intelligent, somewhat independent lady whose fairy tale is fractured by her first love and commitment to a disordered a*hole who nearly kills her. It’s too bad we didn’t get more about the way society has set this victim and others —male and female— up for further hardship. I’d like to see the writer follow through with the research she did with an expert who studied abusers as well as follow through with her passionate outrage about the realities of family court. The passive approach she uses to appease her abuser fail and the violence escalates. While it’s not written with rear style and the story assumes a even almost mundane pace, it lends itself to the issues the memoir explores. This is how the victim disassociates;this is why he or she stays. I especially appreciate this as a central trope or purpose in the text. Explaining the psychological realities victims confront coupled by the judgmental and erroneous assumptions society makes about human beings who become ensnared by broken people whose cunning and charm are so powerful they can sell ice to eskimos. More on what compels the abusers and the monumental task of helping them become functional and self aware deserves further attention. Having a book like this helps victims who can make sense of tomes about DV and PDs but deserve the humanity of true stories. It helps a lot that Leslie is not uneducated, poor, or unattractive. She has had her share of problems growing up but nobody beat or raped her. If you’re someone dealing with DV and want something to listen to while you deal with your daily chores, check it out. It comes with the membership.

likable celebrity memoir
Revisado: 04-18-22
because self deprecating and funny in articulate way it's easy to listen to this memoir by Johnson it's read very well and you can't help but to like her. I didn't think other as a famous person because she doesn't see herself that way. As her friend ud encourage her to write Not books .but plays or scripts She depicts her ordeals vividly but it felt kind reinstating was missing. Something memoirs need. It's compelling but it's resolution istoo easy She need not relapse 100 times to appease me. however I was still unsatisfied by the end. this is probably because she never explained why Fame was such a problem to her. obviously I can guess the implications but I would have liked her to explain it more and how she dealt with it after she recovered from her addictions. I know it's not a failure because I find myself wishing her well. if you like celebrity stuff you'll like this book. yes, there are too many celebrity memoirs out there but when you're dealing with somebody who's a reluctant celebrity it's refreshing. I let sat down and listen to it in one sitting. it isn't Thomas Jefferson or Mark twain. it isn't even Jerry Stahl with permanent midnight or high on arrival which is an awesome drug addled memoir by Mackenzie phillips. this one's a lot more wholesome. if you want one that's not so wholesome read my fair junkie.

Revisado: 04-17-22
Its brave and refreshing for someone to acknowledge they're misstaked especially when the mistakes are what make you rich and successful. His story engaged me and his details about Amy Winehouse and AGagga were tenderloins rendered. His memoir resonates as much as a tabloid allows don't get me wrong. I will read anything and I spent a lot of time on Hollywood Babylon. Perez explains his relationship with gossip with candor. Porno is likely TMI bit I loved it and the John Mayor farce is too weird to be a lie. I believe it and oddly enough everything he shared. If he lied it's by ommosion Thuis is . probably why he's so oh so popular
