Historia
R. Andrew Chesnut offers a fascinating portrayal of Santa Muerte, a skeleton saint whose cult has attracted millions of devotees over the past decade. Although condemned by mainstream churches, this folk saint's supernatural powers appeal to millions of Latin Americans and immigrants in the US. Devotees believe the Bony Lady (as she is affectionately called) to be the fastest and most effective miracle worker, and as such, her statuettes and paraphernalia outsell those of the Virgin of Guadalupe and Saint Jude, two other giants of Mexican religiosity.

This book is not good
Revisado: 01-29-25
Being familiar with the subject matter, this book came across as a patronizing attempt to pass off somebody else's experiences and culture as their own. The author certainly loves to pat himself on the back for filtering the experiences of something like this Mexican folk Saint through the lens of the Catholic Church which is already incredibly judgmental towards these types of entities and their followers. He's cozied himself up to some name worthy character characters and only when they are in any sort of pushback will he ever step back and let whatever happens to them happen. However as I mentioned, the author definitely tries to inject himself as if he were a participant or a devote of this particular folk saying and it comes across as disingenuous and untrustworthy. And even while knowing that there is no set doctrine, practice or literature on Santa Muerte, this author certainly loves declaring himself and authority on this subject even though he most definitely is not. All of the ritual and practice is not even his own but instead lazy collected and told through the perspectives of his family which he married into and passed off as his own. zero out of 10 if that rating could be given. If you're interested on this type of subject, visit Mexico and speak to any of the devotees and begin your journey there but I would warn on taking any advice from a Catholic.

Historia
With over 70 million records sold, Black Sabbath, dubbed by Rolling Stone “the Beatles of heavy metal,” helped create the genre itself, with their distinctive heavy riffs, tuned down guitars, and apocalyptic lyrics. Bassist and primary lyricist Geezer Butler played a gigantic part in the band’s renown, from suggesting the band name to using his fascination with horror, religion, and the occult to compose the lyrics and build the foundation of heavy metal as we know it. In Into the Void, Butler tells his side of the story.

Truly insightful, realistic view into one of the most important, musical acts ever
Revisado: 06-09-23
I love that geezer Butler took the time to write this book. He always seemed to be one of the people who wasn’t as out there in the band and comparisons to Ozzy Osbourne, or Tony Iommi. The only other voice we need to hear from now is Mr. Bill Ward. I love that this book seems like an every day middle-class guy who just happened into one of the most sensational things that would ever happen to a person by way of hard work, of course, and acknowledging his mistakes as he grew older. Cheers to you geezer

He’s been shot, stabbed, hanged, chopped up, squished by an elevator, and once, was even melted into a bloody goo. Off screen, he’s a hero beloved by recovery communities and obsessed fans alike. But the real Danny Trejo is much more complicated than the legend.

The best book ever!
Revisado: 07-08-21
I had been anticipating this book ever since I first heard it was coming out. The fact that Danny Trejo himself narrated it sealed the deal for me. I had already known much of a story since I’ve been a fan of his work in TV and movies but you know some of the other details about his life, his work with others and his family really painted a picture I don’t think I was ready for. I was in tears by the time the book was over, mr. Trejo’s infectious laughter and smile our gifts to humanity. He is a saint and I would love to one day thank him in person for allowing us to peek into his tremendous life.

Take one look at Kevin Smith: He's a balding fatty who wears a size XXL hockey jersey, shorts, and slippers year-round. Not a likely source for life advice. But take a second look at Kevin Smith: He changed filmmaking forever when he was twenty-four with the release of Clerks, and since then has gone on to make nine more profitable movies, runs his own production company, wrote a best-selling graphic novel, and has a beautiful wife and kids. So he must be doing something right.

Integrated approaches to teaching Greek and Roman history are a rarity in academia. Most scholars are historians of either Greek or Roman history and perform research solely in that specific field, an approach that author and award-winning Professor Robert Garland considers questionable. In these 36 passionate lectures, he provides and impressive and rare opportunity to understand the two dominant cultures of the ancient Mediterranean world in relation to one another-a relationship that has virtually no parallel in world history.

Revisado: 11-20-18
This is one of the most greedy, most harsh books I have ever read. It is beautifully written and extremely well narrated. McCarthy paint such an expensive waste land, shows the breakdown of one’s psyche when they are put to the test in this case, survival. I love every book of Mr. McCarthy‘s but this song is by far my favorite

This was such a letdown
Revisado: 09-18-18
After hearing about this author and book from many different sources and soon there after finding it, I was very excited to dive in as the subject matter it delves into is very near and dear to me. Once I finish the book however, I felt incredibly that down as this was more of an ego boosting compilation of stories. I feel as if the author used her writing background to embellish most if not all of the details regarding her abilities. There wasn’t any thorough background given on her spirituality aside for mentioning have trouble past and what appears to be a very late approach to spirituality of any kind.
With regards to her definitions of the energies she sees, if I were to use her own definitions that she is falling prey to which she labeled a trickster. With all the mansions of spiritual guides, master angels and went night as well as mentioning the ark Angel Michael and HECATE then she is of course being influenced by a trickster. Since she doesn’t provide any alternatives to other people being influenced by these energies, then I will except no other alternatives to her own definitions. She of course can’t see this being the case because nobody else has this gift of ours, supposedly. And I said before this is a very self masturbatory attempt to show how in touch she is with spirituality and with helping people, but in the same rate and effort she is also talking about her high profile clients and providing details of how special she is a city like Los Angeles where she claims at the start of the book that 99% of the people she comes across have these energies attached to them but somehow miraculously she doesn’t.
I have definitely found more inspirational and helpful and most importantly more humble people without high profile clients and such claims as this author which I would rather pay attention to.

Incredible!
Revisado: 09-17-18
This was an incredibly informative, insightful of those scary look at the behind the scenes goings-on of our current state of events. If I didn’t know this was all a true story as I have followed it in real time, this would’ve made an incredible fictional account and some political drama. I enjoy the authors nonbiased approach in writing this, I enjoyed the production and the narration a lot as well, very clear and well read. Kudos to everybody except maybe the obvious… The actual subject of the story.
