Loshak and Spinks Together Again!
Revisado: 11-14-24
I honestly believe that this is the best story in the series so far! With each Loshak and Spinks novel, I have learned more about them as individuals and as partners. Their characters and even their friendship has developed gradually throughout the 5 book series, so I would recommend reading this series from the beginning to get the fullest understanding of their partnership. In this book, we get to see each character alone for a bit, and I appreciated that very much. I especially enjoyed seeing Spinks at work in his role as investigative reporter. I was so anxious for him - wow! I was on the edge of my seat! Loshak's inner dialogue is always enjoyable, but when they come together and bounce off each other, they really shine!
Okay, the voices. I might be picky, but I listen to audiobooks a lot and this matters to me. I could always tell who was speaking, yet it was subtle enough to not be distracting. The voices were distinct from each other, but not a bit overpowering or distracting to the reader, as can sometimes happen with audiobooks. This is why I gave the full 5 stars for performance. And as always, the descriptions of the settings, such as alleys, homeless camps, and sewers were crisp and rich in detail. Seemed like I could hear the water dripping! Nicely done!
I received an Advance Reader Copy of Lone Wolf from the authors and have provided my honest review. I hope you will enjoy this novel as much as I did!

So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Historia
Reacher is on a Greyhound bus, minding his own business, with no particular place to go and all the time in the world to get there. Then, he steps off the bus to help an old man who is obviously just a victim waiting to happen. But you know what they say about good deeds. Now, Reacher wants to make it right. An elderly couple have made a few well-meaning mistakes, and now they owe big money to some very bad people. One brazen move leads to another, and suddenly Reacher finds himself a wanted man in the middle of a brutal turf war between rival Ukrainian and Albanian gangs.

Where are the twists?
Revisado: 11-22-19
I REALLY love Reacher, and have enjoyed pretty much all of the Jack Reacher books immensely. I really wanted to love this too. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. It was just way too predictable, and the the number of people killed here was beyond the pale. It was over the top, with no purpose. I also didn't like the "yes" vs. "no" votes on who got to live. Where is Reacher's moral code? Since when does Reacher take a vote? I guess the worst part for me was that there were really no twists, no endearing qualities, nothing to humanize the hero. I kept waiting for a little something more, but it never came. It was too predictable, with no surprises. I hope the next book is better!

Historia
It began in Ethiopia, hundreds of thousands of years ago, when a handful of genetic mutations caused evolution to split from the primates and mankind was born. Now, eons later, evidence of more splits from the apes is being unearthed. And with them, a disturbing realization. Ours was only one of many.

Fantastic!
Revisado: 09-03-19
Well, this story was the best breakthrough adventure yet! There were plenty of times I thought we would get a glimpse of where this is all headed, but it remained deliciously out of reach. I can “feel” where we are going and I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Strongly recommended if you liked the first 3. Trust me! You will not be disappointed in Ripple!

Better than expected
Revisado: 01-14-19
I finished this in 3 days! For me, the ending was very satisfying. I think what made Bird Box so scary was the lack of physical description of the creatures, but later realized that this aspect was absolutely necessary to the story, and it is exactly what makes the story so frightening. I don’t think words could surpass the description I created in my own mind, AND this put me right there with Mallory, not knowing what was out there. Who isn’t afraid of what lurks in the dark?

Preston & Child Nail it Again with Cold Vengeance!
Revisado: 07-02-12
What made the experience of listening to Cold Vengeance the most enjoyable?
I always love to hear about the adventures of Agent Pendergast. This one does not disappoint! This continuation of the the storyline regarding what happened to Pendergast's wife Helen so many years before really hits the mark. From the very first scene in Scotland, it seems to pick right up where the previous story ended. And of course, the voice of Rene Auberjonois makes this one of my favorites. Can't wait to hear the next book to find out what happens to Helen Esterhazy Pendergast and Agent P!
What other book might you compare Cold Vengeance to and why?
The pace and level of excitement in this book was very much like the first book in the Helen trilogy, Fever Dream (2010). The same palpable raw emotion and desperation displayed by Pendergast was riveting. This series brings us much closer to what drives and inspires him. We (the readers) feel his loses much more personally, and we are all desperately hoping for a positive outcome.
Have you listened to any of Rene Auberjonois’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have listened to many of Rene Auberjonois's other performances. This compares closest to Fever Dream....very fast and close to the heart of what matters to Pendergast.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
I like the book title as an actual film title. I guess a tag line would be something like...Secrets, Murder and Vengeance.
