Historia
The city of the gods. Elantris once stood as the symbol of all that is beautiful. A sprawling metropolis of unrivaled grandeur, it was a symbol of power and strength, built to be as imposing as it was magnificent. But Elantris fell...10 years ago.

A Flat Story Weakened by Contrivance and Poor Audio Mixing
Revisado: 03-10-25
I'm a big Sanderson fan, but this one fell flat. The concept was engaging, but the story was contrived and the third act was riddled with cheap Deus ex machina.
I feel bad giving 3 stars on the performance because the voice acting was fantastic. The problem was with the sound effects. I was not a fan of their use of music or effects, but the worst part was the mixing. I could barely hear what was being said during action scenes.

Historia
Drawing on years of research in Japan, Michael Dylan Foster unpacks the history and cultural context of yokai, tracing their roots, interpreting their meanings, and introducing people who have hunted them through the ages. In this delightful and accessible narrative, listeners will explore the roles played by these mysterious beings within Japanese culture and will also learn of their abundance and variety through detailed entries on more than 50 individual creatures.

Poor Storytelling
Revisado: 12-13-24
The first section was way way too drawn out. I didn't need hours of explanation about what exactly is a yokai. The author sounded pretentious at times when generalizing the importance of Yokai to society.
The second part, the Yokai compendium, was better, but fell well short of good. Rather than telling you stories of Yokai, he tells you about stories of Yokai. There is no emotion or suspense.

Historia
A deft mixture of memoir and history, modern biology and behavior, In Search of Memory brings listeners from Kandel's childhood in Nazi-occupied Vienna to the forefront of one of the great scientific endeavors of the 20th century: the search for the biological basis of memory. Nobel Prize winner Eric R. Kandel intertwines the intellectual history of the powerful new science of the mind - a combination of cognitive psychology, neuroscience, and molecular biology - with his own personal quest to understand memory.

Who is this book for?
Revisado: 10-22-24
I came into this book expecting to learn something practical about how memory works. It turned out to be part autobiography, mixed with a poorly paced textbook. In the end, I was left wondering who would be the intended audience.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Cheesy fun
Revisado: 01-09-24
The story was filled with cheesy drama and plot twists. Fun enough to keep me reading, but it follows very common tropes with 2D characters. That being said, the city was presented well and has a lot of characters
