The inaccuracy of the facts.
Revisado: 12-09-24
I had high hopes for *Local Woman Missing*—the premise was intriguing, and the early chapters were gripping. Unfortunately, while the beginning showed promise, the twists and turns of the plot quickly became overcomplicated and riddled with inaccuracies that pulled me out of the story.
***Spoiler Alert:*** Do not read further if you haven’t finished the book!
One glaring issue was the medical examiner’s supposed oversight. A hammer strike to the neck would undoubtedly leave significant evidence, yet this was completely missed in favor of a fabricated suicide note. The suggestion that someone could die by stabbing themselves in the stomach and have it ruled a suicide defies logic and basic forensic knowledge. How this critical detail escaped investigation for six years, leaving an innocent man in prison, is beyond far-fetched.
Additionally, Delilah’s miraculous recovery was utterly implausible. A child who had endured years of trauma, isolation, and the loss of her mother would not be playing carefree in the front yard immediately after being rescued. That portrayal was not only unrealistic but felt dismissive of the psychological depth and complexity such a situation would demand.
While I appreciate the effort to weave a complex narrative, it felt like the author was trying too hard to shock the reader, sacrificing believability and coherence in the process. The ending, in particular, felt rushed and disconnected, leaving me more frustrated than satisfied.
I struggle to understand how this book became a New York Times bestseller. While others may have enjoyed it, for me, the story fell flat and left me disappointed. *Local Woman Missing* had so much potential, but it ultimately failed to deliver.

Amber Patterson Parrish has come a long way from being an invisible wallflower. Her hard work and immaculate planning have paid off now that she’s a prominent socialite, but that doesn’t mean there haven’t been bumps along the way. Less than a year since her husband Jackson’s tax-evasion scandal, Amber is still at the top of the Bishops Harbor community pecking order, free to do as she wishes while Jackson sits in prison. But that freedom is quickly coming to an end. With Jackson getting released from prison, Amber’s time—and money—is vanishing.

Historia
In her mesmerizing fourth work of fiction, Sue Monk Kidd takes an audacious approach to history and brings her acclaimed narrative gifts to imagine the story of a young woman named Ana. Raised in a wealthy family with ties to the ruler of Galilee, she is rebellious and ambitious, with a brilliant mind and a daring spirit. She engages in furtive scholarly pursuits and writes narratives about neglected and silenced women. Ana is expected to marry an older widower, a prospect that horrifies her. An encounter with 18-year-old Jesus changes everything.

I can’t say anymore than just that! It was such an Amazing piece of writing. And although I am not a religious person at all, her writing makes me thirst for knowledge about Jesus’s life and if in fact he had a wife.

Historia
It is the morning of the reaping that will kick off the 10th annual Hunger Games. In the Capitol, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow is preparing for his one shot at glory as a mentor in the Games. The once-mighty house of Snow has fallen on hard times, its fate hanging on the slender chance that Coriolanus will be able to out charm, outwit, and outmaneuver his fellow students to mentor the winning tribute. The odds are against him. He’s been given the humiliating assignment of mentoring the female tribute from District 12, the lowest of the low.

Incredible!
Revisado: 05-15-21
I love this book. Collins is so incredibly talented to make you hate then love then hate a character so much! If you are a fan of the hunger games you will love this. It will make you want more. The narrator would’ve got five stars but his voice used for the female characters made them seem weaker than I’m sure they were supposed to be portrayed and that is my only negative critique. Other than that this audible is one of my favorites.

Historia
On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It’s a wedding for a magazine or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed.

Historia
There is a voice of longing inside each woman. We strive so mightily to be good: good partners, daughters, mothers, employees, and friends. We hope all this striving will make us feel alive. Instead, it leaves us feeling weary, stuck, overwhelmed, and underwhelmed. We look at our lives and wonder: Wasn’t it all supposed to be more beautiful than this? We quickly silence that question, telling ourselves to be grateful, hiding our discontent—even from ourselves.

Not my type of writing
Revisado: 06-24-20
First, Glennon had some good things to say and there were some enjoyable chapters for me but for the most part I had a difficult time powering through it. I had to read it for my book club otherwise I would have put it down long ago. Glennon did a lot of telling in this book. Telling us how society treats us unfairly and how she rose above it. She however failed to show, through detail and antidotes, how she overcame adversity. Maybe it’s this type of writing that I just don’t enjoy, but for me, I was bored, underwhelmed, and tired of listening by the end.

Had high hopes...
Revisado: 03-07-20
This book started off pretty good and it had my interest. However it never peaked. It just kind a got boring and old and there seem to be no climax to the book. Now granted I have three hours left but I’m forcing myself to listen to the rest of it. It could be that I just read an incredible book from the Sunshine book club and so that is why this one is a major disappointment or could be just that it is really just not that good of a book. The narrator also did not add anything to the story. It irritated me that she did not Use the appropriate accent for each of her characters. She made Charlotte sound like some kind of old fuddy-duddy when really she’s just a Southern Belle. Why didn’t they have southern accents? Why did Peter from England sound like he was from Australia? I really think the narrator could’ve done a better job . This will not go down as one of my favorite books from Reese’s picks and if the last three hours proves to get better I’ll revise my rating. But if it wasn’t for the book club I would stop reading right now.
