Not my fav Reacher story
Revisado: 05-02-19
It’s nice to have another Reacher story to read. This one is the same as the rest, although, we get a little background info on Reacher’s family.
I miss Dick Hill. Narrator doesn’t differentiate between characters very much. Sometimes it’s tricky to keep track of dialogue.

Historia
In this gripping thriller, Claire Keesey, the branch manager for a Boston bank, is taken hostage during a robbery. She is released, but Doug MacRay, the brains behind the tough, tight-knit crew of thieves, can't get her out of his mind. Tracking her down without his mask and gun, Doug introduces himself, and their mutual attraction is undeniable - as are the risks of a relationship. Doug imagines a life away from bank robberies and Charlestown. But before that can happen, the crew learns that there may be a way to rob Boston's venerable baseball stadium, Fenway Park.

My fav Chuck Hogan novel
Revisado: 07-28-18
An outstanding story. All the best elements of a heist novel with realistic human personal relationship drama as well.
Narrator is excellent with a listenable voice and great inflection. Only issue was the part time Boston accent. Best choice for this book would’ve been one of the Wahlbergs, I think.

David Simon, a reporter for the Baltimore Sun, spent 4 years on the police beat before taking a leave of absence to write this book.

Why do that to a book? Doesn’t make sense to me. Other than that, it’s a fascinating look inside the Baltimore homicide unit from the creator of The Wire.

Historia
Since its final episode aired in 2008, HBO's acclaimed crime drama The Wire has only become more popular and influential. The issues it tackled, from the failures of the drug war and criminal justice system to systemic bias in law enforcement and other social institutions, have become more urgent and central to the national conversation. But while there has been a great deal of critical analysis of the show and its themes, until now there has never been a definitive, behind-the-scenes take on how it came to be made.

“There are two types of people in this world. Those that have seen The Wire and those that haven’t.”
Terrific companion piece to one of the greatest shows of all time. Amazing to hear the creators, writers, actors, and crew discuss the impact of this show on them and society at large.
At first. I was disappointed that the actors from the show weren’t narrating. However, I got over that quickly. The performance is excellent.

Elvis & Joe back at it
Revisado: 01-05-18
I’m a big fan of the Elvis Cole novels. The latest installment doesn’t disappoint as we follow Cole in a deadly race to solve a mystery.
Luke Daniels does a good job. His portrayal of Pike is not my favorite, but, it’s certainly not bad. Daniels seems to have a good handle on the character and motivation of Cole as a PI.
Finally, no Elvis Cole mystery would be complete without a detailed description of food preparation. Veal chops and eggplant this time. Sounds delicious. 😊👍🏻

Revisado: 11-30-17
If you’ve read the entire series, this book is for you. Classic mystery storytelling with stores that intertwine events of the distant past and the present day of our heroes.
The next book will likely be the last in the series. I’m sure Johnson will pen a fitting final installment of this fine series.
Guidall is the BEST narrator in the business.

Historia
Jeremy works at the Video Hut in Nevada, Iowa. It's a small town in the center of the state - the first a in Nevada pronounced ay. This is the late 1990s, and even if the Hollywood Video in Ames poses an existential threat to Video Hut, there are still regular customers, a rush in the late afternoon. It's good enough for Jeremy: It's a job, quiet and predictable, and it gets him out of the house, where he lives with his dad and where they both try to avoid missing Mom, who died six years ago in a car wreck.

Unique storytelling
Revisado: 11-07-17
An unconventional mystery told in a sprawling narrative that meanders from person to person, place to place, and character to character. Better for prolonged listening as I found it difficult to keep my place in the story with frequent stops and restarts. I believe the author is the narrator and the performance is exquisite and heartfelt. Side note: there is music mixed in at certain beacon points in the book. Not my thing - I don’t feel like that ever adds to the story.

Excellent edition to the series
Revisado: 01-04-17
Craig Johnson provides more of the aging, sarcastic, and high plains punching bag sheriff Walt Longmire in this welcome addition to the Longmire series. In this story we are treated to an interesting mystery while at the same time more development of the long arc story lines of sheriff Longmire, Vic, and other characters.
As always, Guidall's narration is the BEST IN THE BUSINESS.

Historia
Since his wife died, Ralph Roberts has been having trouble sleeping. Each night he wakes up a bit earlier until he's barely sleeping at all. During his late-night walks, he observes some strange things going on in Derry, Maine. He sees colored ribbons streaming from people's heads, two strange little men wandering around town after dark, and more. He begins to suspect that these visions are something more than hallucinations brought on by lack of sleep.

Story elements unfold very slowly. Actually got better near the end, after the climax, when it was almost over.
Performance note: Music almost RUINED an excellent narration from Eli Wallach. DO NOT put music in audiobooks. Please.
