I finally know why
Revisado: 04-27-25
I didn’t read this book in my youth, and the reason is unexplained. However, I am happy that I read it in my adult life because I probably wouldn’t have understood it if I read it at that time. Maya Angelou’s story is extremely relatable and her personality truly matches one of the Aries zodiac sign. Her diction is authentic and slow and at times annoyed me. It can cause one to think she is cocky which she acknowledges but the truth is she read and applied what she read and I applaud this. Overall, her struggles prove the phenomenon that she is and her books will allow one to add some new words to their vocabulary. Enjoy!!
P.S. Having the book read by the author is as genuine as it gets.

They just have this capability..
Revisado: 04-24-25
Authors like Beverly Jenkins and Lynn Austin have such an impeccable capability to write lovely stories and this is one of them. I think the best component about their stories are that they are thorough. In addition to this full story, the in depth study of historical events are so informal and relatable. I love it and you will too. Enjoy!!! Oh and by the way extraordinary narration… bravo!!!

Historia
A star athlete and Olympic prospect, Kal Carter is bound for greatness. Everyone says it, only he's not sure he entirely believes it. Because he's lost something he can't replace, and most days he feels like he's holding up the sky; and doing it all on his own. To maintain focus, he never lets anyone close except in the most superficial ways, and he's become very good at it. Until a long, cold week when the solitary girl next door who never speaks, smiles, or makes eye contact barges into his life and seems poised to upend the whole doggone thing.

Bad narration
Revisado: 04-23-25
In regard to speed, the male narrator talked slow at times. The female narrator sounds like a robot. Overall it’s a cute love story. It dragged on a little while waiting for the two main characters to make the connection. I guess this was a way to shine a positive light on the usage of the word snowflake… go figure. Not too bad.

When good meets ghetto
Revisado: 04-23-25
The author hit all of the sad but true stereotypes of a lost black girl of the ghetto. It was good. Written pretty well. Good flow. Accurate descriptions and detail. Complex. Raw and real. I don’t think I want to read parts 2,3,4 or more. This was enough. There is a slight pause and smacking that the author does when he goes into the next chapter which messed up the narration for me. Other than that, if you want to know what it’s like in the hood and having to do what you have do to survive, this is your story.

Historia
For 14-year-old Wallis Ann Stamper and her family, life in the Appalachian Mountains is simple and satisfying, though not for the tenderhearted. While her older sister, Laci - a mute, musically gifted savant - is constantly watched over and protected, Wallis Ann is as practical and sturdy as her name. When the Tuckasegee River bursts its banks, forcing them to flee in the middle of the night, those qualities save her life. But though her family is eventually reunited, the tragedy opens Wallis Ann's eyes to a world beyond the creek that's borne their name for generations.

Exceptional narration
Revisado: 04-20-25
I have never heard someone keep up with Appalachian twang in my life and the narrator did just that. Phenomenal definitely made the characters come to life. The story is good. It’s actually great. Listening to the main character go through the things she went through is at times heartbreaking but also understanding it also has good twists and is a unforgettable story.

After years of questioning her sanity, Kat Delancey reluctantly returns to the old family manor as its legal owner, hoping desperately to silence the doubts in her mind and leave the home's tragic past behind her once and for all. It’s just OK
Revisado: 04-20-25
The author did a just OK job at describing the details of what was happening. To me the cover of the book looks like a doll, but the book is not about a doll. It was OK though not horrible. Narrator did OK.

Historia
Born to a poor couple who were tenant farmers on a plantation in Mississippi, Anne Moody lived through some of the most dangerous days of the pre-civil rights era in the South. The week before she began high school came the news of Emmet Till's lynching. Before then, she had "known the fear of hunger, hell, and the Devil. But now there was…the fear of being killed just because I was black." In that moment was born the passion for freedom and justice that would change her life.

It’s good because it talks about black history. I didn’t like the ending. It is indeed a coming-of-age memoir. I went through Anne Moody‘s entire life. Narrator did a good job.

Lynn Austin’s ability!!
Revisado: 04-13-25
Her ability is unattainable. I am in awe after the completion of her books. Her stories are lengthy because they are THOROUGH. Undoubtedly one of the best authors around. The story is so complex but so real. Heartfelt and genuine. I can assure you will love this story and not want it to end. The one and only con was the narrator was nasally and it annoyed me at times but other than that, totally enjoyable and unforgettable. Well written. Enjoy!

Surprising twists. At first, I didn’t like the back-and-forth, but I learned how they connected. I love that it’s a story of friendship. It’s written really well and narrated even better.
