Wow! This series corrupted my pandemic shelter time so much that I started cursing like the characters. Then my daughter started doing the same without reading the books. FML.

Refreshingly Uplifting
Revisado: 02-26-20
It is a joy to experience a book in which there is no disaster to dodge or villain to vanquish, This trader's tale transports us to a future without the horrible conditions of the "Golden" age of sailing. And it models the behaviors we all can appreciate - camaraderie, cooperation, and collaboration. Thank you, Nathan Lowell. And kudos, Jeffrey Kafer, for making this a great listening time.

Historia
Concerned that technology is about to chase mythological creatures out into the open (how long can Sasquatch stay hidden from Google maps?), the League for Interspecies Cooperation is sending Jillian to Louisiana on a fact-finding mission. While the League hopes to hold on to secrecy for a little bit longer, they're preparing for the worst in terms of human reactions. They need a plan, so they look to Mystic Bayou, a tiny town hidden in the swamp where humans and supernatural residents have been living in harmony for generations.

I don't fantasize about having sex with other species, so I guess I'm not the target audience The concept of an anthropologist studying a community of shape shifters intrigued me. Until the protagonist started to focus on getting her daily dose of dragon dick. I'm no prude, but the literary value of discussing the temperature of spent dragon semen eluded me...

Alexander Grant is a little too good at a few too many things. Two dozen martial arts. Twice that many languages. Chess, the piano, sports, forging excused absences, you name it. He graduated high school top of his class 17 times. Of course, no one knows any of this. Not that he wants to go unnoticed. It’s just safer that way.

Thumbing across the scorched West Texas desert, loner Jack Reacher has nowhere to go and all the time in the world to get there. Cruising the same stretch of two-lane blacktop is pretty Carmen Greer. But for Reacher, the lift comes with a hitch. Carmen's got a story to tell, and it's a wild one. All about her husband, her family secrets, and a hometown that's pure Gothic. She's also got a plan. Jack Reacher's part of it. And before the sun sets, this ride could cost them both their lives.

hills narrative is at first disconcerting. i worried about him keeling over in mid-sentence. Then, after i grew accustomed to his cadence, i found it annoying. not because of him. because he KNEW he was making us wait on the edge of our seats for him to finish the damned paragraph. well played, Mr Hill. Well played indeed.

Grated my ears like nails on a chalkboard every time I heard it mispronounced. Spoiled the narrative. Inexcusable since the book is about the folks who emigrated to Sinoe.

I wasn't aware that there are several significant differences between the book and the movie. Now that I have finished the book, I wish I had read it a long time ago. Much more believable, thoughtful, and lyrical.

Historia
What is new about how teenagers communicate through services such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram? Do social media affect the quality of teens' lives? In this eye-opening book, youth culture and technology expert Danah Boyd uncovers some of the major myths regarding teens' use of social media. She explores tropes about identity, privacy, safety, danger, and bullying. Ultimately, Boyd argues that society fails young people when paternalism and protectionism hinder teenagers' ability to become informed, thoughtful, and engaged citizens through their online interactions.

A "Navel" Adventure?
Revisado: 06-13-16
Would you listen to The King's Privateer again? Why?
Dewey Lambdin's descriptions of naval procedures are fascinating. His formula of mixing action, historical details, and gratuitous lust is predictable but engaging. I still laugh each time I see the misspelling of "Naval" on the cover.
What about John Lee’s performance did you like?
John Lee has a seemingly unbounded range of accents and tones which make following the various characters both easy and delightful.
