Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Sitting Still at the End of This Story
Revisado: 02-03-25
I had no idea for the first half of this book if I even liked it and I just kept going because a good friend loved it so much. I am in my early 70s. The descriptions of the depth of the characters, their everyday battles with just living, dealing with substance abuse and the effects on a small town, one of many across this country, was an emotional journey. But there are survivors, amazing people and I almost felt it was a privilege to even be allowed to hear their stories. At one point I was so thankful to realize that there was a light at the end of the tunnel and I had been given a glimpse of that light. The narration was brilliant. So 15 minutes have passed since I ended this book and I'm still sitting still.

Historia
Young playwright Melina Green has just written a new work inspired by the life of her Elizabethan ancestor Emilia Bassano. But seeing it performed is unlikely, in a theater world where the playing field isn’t level for women. As Melina wonders if she dares risk failure again, her best friend takes the decision out of her hands and submits the play to a festival under a male pseudonym.

Did He or Didn't He? I Think Not.
Revisado: 01-06-25
An amazing story about an age old debate. Did he or didn't he write those plays or sonnets. I enjoyed reading about the main character, a real historical female. The back and forth from historical times to modern day about some of the same exact difficulties people face, especially females, was a topic that was explored. Be sure to listen to the comments by the author at the end. It was interesting to know why she decided to write this story and the work that went into the process. I learned a lot about some topics I really knew nothing about. I'm really glad I decided to listen.

Historia
The year 1920: Flying in the face of convention, legendary American adventuress Beryl Helliwell never fails to surprise and shock. The last thing her adoring public would expect is that she craves some peace and quiet. The humdrum hamlet of Walmsley Parva in the English countryside seems just the ticket. And, honestly, until America comes to its senses and repeals Prohibition, Beryl has no intention of returning stateside and subjecting herself to bathtub gin.

I wish I had been able to listen to this book before we went to India. So much rich detail, cultural and historical information. I was sorry to have it end.
