Good Story ruined by Sex
Revisado: 10-30-14
What disappointed you about Shadow Game?
I really like the story up until about half way through. Then it seemed that the last half of every chapter was nothing but soft porn. I couldn't even finish the book and was very disappointed.
If you’ve listened to books by Christine Feehan before, how does this one compare?
I haven't listened to anything else by her. Probably won't.
Have you listened to any of Tom Stechschulte’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No I haven't. I thought he did a good job though.
What character would you cut from Shadow Game?
none
Any additional comments?
I wish that books had some type of rating system like movies and video games. I was really enjoying this book until it turned into just a lot of sex.

Left wanting something more
Revisado: 06-16-14
Would you listen to The Giver again? Why?
Maybe. I have mixed emotions. Enjoyed it until the end which ended abruptly without resolution. I think I would like to listen to it again to see if I could pick up on any foreshadowing of the ending.
Would you recommend The Giver to your friends? Why or why not?
Yes. Because I think it is thought-provoking.
What three words best describe Ron Rifkin’s voice?
Fine. Calming. Easy.
Any additional comments?
I felt the book lacked resolution. The narrator was good except it often felt like he was licking his lips or something and that was distracting. The music was also very distracting to me and too loud. There was one point in the narration that I thought my device had stopped working properly. There was a pause that was over a minute long and I don't like that. Several of the pauses were too long.

UGH! UGH! UGH!
Revisado: 03-20-14
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
No one. The writing was choppy and the narration was terrible.
What do you think your next listen will be?
I am not sure. I was so excited to find a book that was aimed at an LDS audience so I didn't have to worry about foul language or inappropriate sexual scenes. Now I am just disappointed and will have to try to find something else.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I didn't feel like there was any emotion from the narrator. He might as well have been reading the ingredient list off from a corn flakes box.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Shock. Shock that the writing seemed so childish, so choppy, and so repetitive. Shock that the story was so unrealistic and silly. Complete disappointment
Any additional comments?
I prefer books that don't have foul language or blatant sexual scenes. They are difficult to find and would hope that audible would search out and offer more Christian or LDS novels. I know that there are those types of novels available that have much better writing and story lines.

One Man's Journey
Revisado: 02-07-14
Would you consider the audio edition of The Walk to be better than the print version?
I do. I think it makes the main character seem more real.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Walk?
I don't know that there was a most memorable. The whole story is important - even the little things that didn't seem important at the time become an important part of the journey.
What does Richard Paul Evans bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The gentleness in his voice and the desire to persevere.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
When one is lost, there are unexpected ways to be found.
Any additional comments?
I love this and am so excited that there are more books in the series. I am excited to see the growth of the character. He seems real to me and makes me want to find that growth in my personal life as well.

Guy Montag was a fireman whose job it was to start fires....The system was simple. Everyone understood it. Books were for burning...along with the houses in which they were hidden. Montag enjoyed his job. He had been a fireman for 10 years, and he had never questioned the pleasure of the midnight runs, nor the joy of watching pages consumed by flames...never questioned anything until he met a 17-year-old girl who told him of a past when people were not afraid.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

Weird title - good book
Revisado: 12-27-12
Would you listen to Water for Elephants again? Why?
Maybe. I don't typically listen to a book more than once. However, I enjoyed this book and thought there were many lessons to be learned from the characters and the plot.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Water for Elephants?
The most memorable for me was toward the end of the book when he is waiting for his family to come take him to the circus. The impact that has on him and on his nurse. It was a great reminder to me to give of myself and to serve others.
What about David LeDoux and John Randolph Jones ’s performance did you like?
I am not sure who did which voice. But I loved the voice of Jacob when he was older. It sounded so right for the character. The other narrator was good as well. However, I sometimes found it hard to distinguish between Jacob and the other circus workers.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. Not really. It was one that I didn't want to leave for very long but didn't have me on the edge of my seat.

George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

Definitely a Classic
Revisado: 12-27-12
What made the experience of listening to 1984 the most enjoyable?
I listened to it during the 2012 presidential election and it was interesting to compare the society of 1984 to where our society is and where it may be heading in the future.
What about Simon Prebble’s performance did you like?
He did a great job and made me feel like I was in the same room as he.

Freedom or Faked Perfection
Revisado: 09-10-12
What made the experience of listening to Matched the most enjoyable?
The narrator had a sing song quality to her voice and did a great job distinguishing the characters. I have just started the 2nd book and am happy that she is also the narrator for book 2.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I loved all of them for different reasons. Casia for her courage to want something different. Xander for his willingness to stand by her. Ky for his wisdom. Each character in the book, from the main characters to Casias family members even to the officials seemed to have well developed personalities. They each stood out for their own uniqueness in a society where uniqueness wasn't supposed to exist. The author did a good job making them seem like real people.
Have you listened to any of Kate Simses’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No. But I will again.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes.
Any additional comments?
I enjoyed this book as a story but it was also intriqing to me and made me ponder how a society can end up like this one. It made me question where we draw the line of keeping our freedoms and allowing our own government to monitor our lives.

Good book but problem with the recording
Revisado: 09-10-12
Would you try another book from James Patterson and Andrew Gross and/or Melissa Leo and Jeremy Piven ?
Probably. I don't think the writing is all that spectacular but it is something that is easy to listen to withouth having to concentrate.
Which character – as performed by Melissa Leo and Jeremy Piven – was your favorite?
Kymera
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from 2nd Chance?
I would have cut out the f word. I hate vulgarity and this book seemed like it was putting it in just for the sake of having swear words.
