Meh

Did not care for the story. The plot was not gruesome but the gaslighting throughout was triggering. Did not enjoy reading this book, but finished anyway.

Historia
In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter is born. But Circe is a strange child—not powerful, like her father, nor viciously alluring like her mother. Turning to the world of mortals for companionship, she discovers that she does possess power—the power of witchcraft, which can transform rivals into monsters and menace the gods themselves.

Unexpected Delight
Revisado: 06-07-20
A timeless treasure! Circe is brimming with intensity, tragedy and raw emotion. The story sweeps you along with the young nymph’s journey to live her destiny. She is born unloved and without obvious powers. In truth, it is her unwavering will and determination to endure all that the Gods heap on her.
I was on the edge of my seat waiting on the outcome each time she entered into a conversation with the Gods. Just when you think you know how it will all end Circe once again tempts fate and does the unexpected!

Historia
Alice Wright marries handsome American Bennett Van Cleve hoping to escape her stifling life in England. But small-town Kentucky quickly proves equally claustrophobic, especially living alongside her overbearing father-in-law. So, when a call goes out for a team of women to deliver books as part of Eleanor Roosevelt’s new traveling library, Alice signs on enthusiastically. The leader, and soon Alice's greatest ally, is Margery, a smart-talking, self-sufficient woman who's never asked a man's permission for anything.

The Giver of the Stars
Revisado: 11-23-19
Such a wonderful read! The characters were very realistic and the story was captivating. Strong women such as Marjorie were important to transition our society to change and progress. Alice was a admirable women herself, she didn’t buck the system like Marg, but managed to stand up for her beliefs while still being a respectable lady.
My biggest criticism is with the reading. I would have preferred to hear Izzie singing but on some occasions her words were just read. This definitely did not give the same feel as hearing it sang.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 10-28-19
This book immediately plunged into controversial topics. It felt sac-religious at times. I forced myself to keep reading before making any judgements. Overall, the writing seemed poor and forced. But, I do see young adult themes that are important. If you look over all the high school/teenage drama and bs you might see what what the writer intended to teach you. While I’m fine reading Harry Potter or Dresden Files, this book made me uncomfortable. But the story finally grabbed me and I needed closure.

One of the best books I’ve read this year!
Revisado: 10-07-19
This book is a splendid work of historical fiction that winds a common thread around a forgotten, romantic era. The charming characters that inhabit the small English town of Rye under go many changes due to the consequence of war. Knowing ones history does not mean you agree with it, all that is really expected is for one to try to understand it and learn from it.
