disappointing full of cliches not much about chess
Revisado: 04-06-25
This book seemed to contain more quotations (from other people) and cliches than anything else. I don't think he's qualified to be giving all kinds of life lessons, he's qualified to tell us about his journey to become a grandmaster in chess, which is what I was interested in. But there was almost none of that.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Arrogant Anti-Christian Science & Evolution
Revisado: 01-14-25
This book came across to me as "woke". Why would someone be so interested in helping humanity survive if humanity is just a bunch of animals who have no eternal future? I mean in that case, so what? Only arrogant people who are blinded by the ruler of this world could think in such a nonsensical way, missing the ridiculously on ious gaping hole in their logic. The "hero's" assumptive way of thinking is just very annoying for a Christian. I LOVED the actual physics and other science of this book (nothing anti-God about real science based on facts).. the author is very good at that part, but I found the constantly-assumed-to-be-factual nonsensical religion of evolution extremely annoying. I feel sorry for this blinded author. Lord God please reveal the truth to him.

Author of the National Book Award-winning All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy is one of the most provocative American stylists to emerge in the last century. The striking novel Blood Meridian offers an unflinching narrative of the brutality that accompanied the push west on the 1850s Texas frontier.

Confusing story about awful to depressing meaningless situations
Revisado: 10-24-24
Narrator is monotone. Writing is boring, constant excessive descriptions about irrelevant things. Story is pointless. I gave up trying to listen about halfway through hearing about a horse suffering horribly from a snake bite, with born exposed on his face. Great.

decent story, but too much time spent on technical details and politeness between officers
Revisado: 07-15-24
I thought there were parts of the story that were very creative and interesting, but man they spent a lot of time reviewing specifications of weapons and ships and it seemed like all the officers were just perfectly polite upstanding people and the same for all the political figures. so as much as the story was interesting and creative, much of it was boring.

Historia
This is the remarkable behind-the-scenes story of the creation and growth of Airbnb, the online lodging platform that has become, in under a decade, the largest provider of accommodations in the world. At first just the wacky idea of cofounders Brian Chesky, Joe Gebbia, and Nathan Blecharczyk, Airbnb has disrupted the $500 billion hotel industry, and its $30 billion valuation is now larger than that of Hilton and close to that of Marriott.

No Better Time tells of a young, driven mathematical genius who wrote a set of algorithms that would create a faster, better Internet. It's the story of a beautiful friendship between a loud, irreverent student and his soft-spoken MIT professor, of a husband and father who spent years struggling to make ends meet only to become a billionaire almost overnight with the success of Akamai Technologies, the Internet content delivery network he cofounded with his mentor.

Historia
For decades, Demi Moore has been synonymous with celebrity. From iconic film roles to high-profile relationships, Moore has never been far from the spotlight - or the headlines. Even as Demi was becoming the highest paid actress in Hollywood, however, she was always outrunning her past. Throughout her rise to fame and during some of the most pivotal moments of her life, Demi battled addiction, body image issues, and childhood trauma that would follow her for years - all while juggling a skyrocketing career and at times negative public perception.

Only three stars for the story because I don't think we learned anything from her life. I'm pretty sure she's still trying to find the meaning of life. I wish she'd get to know Jesus, because he is the only real answer to what she's looking for.

Historia
When the 2010 earthquake struck Haiti, Raymond Joseph, the former Haitian ambassador to the United States, found himself rushing back to his beloved country. The earthquake ignited a passion in Joseph, inspiring him to run for president against great competition, including two well-known Haitian pop stars, his nephew Wyclef Jean and Michel Martelly. But he couldn't compete in a democratic system corrupt to the core.

Growing up in one of the meanest counties in the Jim Crow South, Carter is the only American president who essentially lived in three centuries: his early life on the farm in the 1920s without electricity or running water might as well have been in the nineteenth; his presidency put him at the center of major events in the twentieth; and his efforts on conflict resolution and global health set him on the cutting edge of the challenges of the 21st.

Too much criticism of Reagan and Trump
Revisado: 06-07-22
I would not recommend this biography only because the author is so annoying in constantly bringing up Trump (40 years later??) and Reagan (comparing Carter favorably with them, "Carter messed up, but at least he wasn't like Reagan or Trump!!") and his obvious liberal bias. "Democrats and Socialism is obviously good, and Republicans and free markets obviously bad". Just stick to YOUR subject, you are writing about CARTER. But probably there aren't a lot of good biographies about a president who achieved a 23% approval rating so this might be the best of a bunch or bad biographies.
