Historia
Each of this book's four chapters covers one of the most important questions a person must ask themselves: What is the purpose of my life? How can I best realize the purpose of my life? Who do I want to be? How do I want other people to think of me? Rather than give you answers to these questions, this guide provides a framework that helps you develop your own answers while equipping you with the neuroscientific tools necessary to transform yourself into whomever you choose to be.

Good audiobook, but suggest pairing it with book
Revisado: 06-07-23
I have listened through and intend on following the recommendations. However it’s probably best to have the actual book handy as you’re going through. Perhaps the authors could provide a summary of the guide on their website. Overall I appreciate the spirit this was written in and intend on sharing it with friends to try to examine and craft our own lives more intentionally.

Historia
Even the greatest minds in medicine have been terribly, terribly wrong. Boneheads and Brainiacs profiles the winners of the Nobel Prize in Medicine from 1901 to 1950 - a surprisingly diverse group of racists, cranks, and opportunists, as well as heroes, geniuses, and selfless benefactors of humanity. Forget all the ivory tower stereotypes of white-coated doctors finding miracle cures. Boneheads and Brainiacs reveals the messy human reality behind medical progress, in a highly entertaining audiobook for the ordinary listener.

Fascinating dive into the history of medicine
Revisado: 08-05-20
Each chapter covers a year and who won the prize that year. It is meticulously researched, often funny, often horrifying. Will people in a hundred years think our current medicine is both barbarous and prescient? I think so. Great read!

Historia
One hundred thousand years ago, at least six human species inhabited the Earth. Today there is just one. Us. Homo sapiens. How did our species succeed in the battle for dominance? Why did our foraging ancestors come together to create cities and kingdoms? How did we come to believe in gods, nations, and human rights; to trust money, books, and laws; and to be enslaved by bureaucracy, timetables, and consumerism?

Good book, but he's human like the rest of us...
Revisado: 03-27-17
Starts strong. He has a good way of unpacking each assumption and idea in the beginning. Really gets you to think about our society. Toward the middle of the book though it starts to get a little more precarious. It's here the author's worldview starts to noticeably skew the data used to make his point.
Most of the psychological evidence used are based on work done with small sample sizes on limited populations and based on circumstantial evidence instead of good controlled experiments. Much of the genetic research as well. Just be aware when reading that the author is an historian. He knows his field well, but falls prey to the lure of "the experts" when discussing things outside his discipline.

Historia
Captain Jack Aubrey is ashore on half pay without a command, until Stephen Maturin arrives with secret orders for Aubrey to take a frigate to the Cape of Good Hope under a commodore's pennant, there to mount an expedition against the French-held islands of Mauritius and La Reunion. But the difficulties of carrying out his orders are compounded by two of his own captains, Lord Clonfert, a pleasure-seeking dilettante, and Captain Corbett, whose severity pushes his crew to the verge of mutiny.

Historia
Here is one of the best historical novels ever written. Lame, stammering Claudius, once a major embarrassment to the imperial family and now emperor of Rome, writes an eyewitness account of the reign of the first four Caesars: the noble Augustus and his cunning wife, Livia; the reptilian Tiberius; the monstrous Caligula; and finally old Claudius himself. Filled with poisonings, betrayal, and shocking excesses, I Claudius is history that rivals the most exciting contemporary fiction.

Great Book
Revisado: 01-02-11
This is a fantastic read. The "auto"biography is very colorful, personal and gave me the feeling I was seeing ancient Rome for the first time. While historical fiction, it is interesting to note the parallels between what was happening then and what is happening in our society today. Degradation, promiscuity, corrupt self-serving government, murder, intrigue, incest, disease...and in the middle of it all poor crippled Claudius, coming out the other side on top of it all.
Mr. Runger does a lively reading. Very easy listen. Perfectly suited to the entertaining content!
