Historia
On his last combat deployment, Lt. Cmdr. James Reece's entire team was killed in an ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government. Now, with no family and free from the military's command structure, Reece applies the lessons that he's learned in over a decade of constant warfare toward revenge.

A great start, room to improve
Revisado: 09-21-24
This was a fun introduction to a series I was completely familiar with but seems to have great merit. I’d like to see a little more “show“ then “tell“ but I have a good feeling about it and the narrator is fantastic.

I left a review on the first book in the series, saying that it was hard to follow and obviously a first work in establishing this world. This one did not disappoint, keeping the energy moving and the characters very believable. Excited to read more!

Slow start to the series but I'd like to hear more
Revisado: 09-06-24
I read a LOT of books like these so I have a pretty high bar for character development, show-vs-tell, and length of material compared with the payoff at the end. This book has a great middle act that keeps you on the edge of your seat but could easily be half the overall length. Felt like a first book in a series, in a big way, though it kept me interested enough to both finish and maybe try the next one!

Historia
The Last Punisher is a bold, no-holds-barred first-person account of the Iraq War. With wry humor and moving testimony, Kevin Lacz tells the story of his tour in Iraq with SEAL Team Three, the warrior elite of the navy. This legendary unit, known as The Punishers, included Chris Kyle ( American Sniper), Mike Monsoor, Ryan Job, and Marc Lee. These brave men were instrumental in securing the key locations in the pivotal 2006 Battle of Ramadi, told with stunning detail in this book.

Important story bits, not Audible quality
Revisado: 07-23-24
I read a lot of books like these - it’s always an honor to hear the stories and lessons from great warriors of our time. This one struggles a lot in the production, particularly the editing, pacing, and inflection of the reader, which is a real shame. The story jumps around quite a bit like it was edited from a longer work but there are great nuggets inside. Worth your time if you love these types of things as much as I do but I wish there were a better rendition to honor the service of this American soldier and his brothers.

Some good tips…mostly?
Revisado: 04-19-24
This was a good take on how to prioritize things that you care about now AND later before it’s too late. But there’s also a nagging emptiness to the idea of wanting to exit with nothing left. I like the concept and there are some good ideas, just take them with a grain of salt.

Not a fitting end to the series
Revisado: 09-23-23
Sadly, this title makes me want to return it more than complete it. I've listened to this entire series multiple times but this book went a bridge too far. Mitch is little more than a robot and the reader can't keep up with his predecessor - though I can't blame him for trying to hit such a high bar. I chose to not finish this book and instead restart the series with the titles that were worth my time.

Historia
In When McKinsey Comes to Town, two prizewinning investigative journalists have written a portrait of the company sharply at odds with its public image. Bogdanich and Forsythe have penetrated the veil of secrecy surrounding McKinsey by conducting hundreds of interviews, obtaining tens of thousands of revelatory documents, and following rule #1 of investigative reporting: Follow the money. When McKinsey Comes to Town is a a devastating portrait of a firm whose work has often made the world more unequal, more corrupt, and more dangerous.

Could be shorter but still important
Revisado: 06-29-23
I feel like this is one of those books that had to fight to reach suitable length due to the sensitive and largely unavailable information at its core. It gets a little bit repetitive in its style, for sure, but I am glad that I read it and have a greater understanding of how deep the rabbit hole goes. We should all be wary of any corporation that has as much influence as McKinsey and heed the warnings herein as we seek to solve problems and build a better future.

I generally love books like this but it was really hard to work through what sounded like a series of news stories read in this way. The reader did a great job but the constant footnotes and editorial comments really made it difficult to stay engaged. There is some good content in here And I am guessing it would be much more enjoyable when read for yourself.
