She plays from memory. Her memories. The day after her 16th birthday, Princess Alia finds out that she's been given away in marriage to a man she's never met. The war has just ended, and for Alia's protection, she must travel to her future kingdom disguised as a chicken farmer's daughter. This princess-to-pauper story is filled with problems, prayers, and plenty of piano.

Beautifully performed with a lovely cast of characters! Best Audible book I have listened to so far!
Loved Dorrie's character development and her realization that God was with her through all of her trials.
Brilliant! The ending brought tears to my eyes!

Suspense mixed with wit and great characters
Revisado: 09-30-20
The plot held me in suspense as I called out. suggestions and warnings to the protagonists. However, I found several inconsistencies with Church doctrine and the way some situations were handled. I was disappointed that Leo did not celebrate Mass for the group before venturing out to confront evil, nor did he gather the group in prayer for protection.
Looking forward to the 2nd book in the series!

Enjoyed every minute and each character in Big Stone Gap. Ave Maria' s sense of humor had me laughing out loud!
I really enjoyed the interview in
Ch. 12 that clarified why the audible version would be a better choice over the hard copy.
Thank you for the pleasure of getting acquainted with the residents of Big Stone Gap!

Excellent!
Revisado: 06-07-20
Beautiful generational story of growing up Catholic in South Boston ( 40s - 50s) with excellent narration. Each chapter typically ends with explanations of Catholic devotions, religious practices, and other pertinent background info which fleshed out the time period. Hated to see it end! Narration is best I have ever heard!

Historia
"I remained, lost in oblivion; My face I reclined on the Beloved. All ceased and I abandoned myself, Leaving my cares forgotten among the lillies." Thus writes 16th century Spanish poet and mystic, St. John of the Cross. In this, his third work, the author reflects on the nature of a personal union with Christ, found in the abandonment of self.
