Terrific overview of prehistoric hominids
Revisado: 12-25-23
This course is on par with other Great Courses. The lecturer is knowledgeable and insightful, while the content is comprehensive and novel.
The lecturer's delivery was solid—I have no idea why other reviewers characterized her delivery as reading a script. Her lectures follow the notes very closely but they're notes from her lecture! She's clearly excited about and invested in the topic.
Same goes for remarks on some course content being a "commentary" on modern life. There's no woke agenda here, just some insight into how modern society has impacted our understanding of prehistoric society. It's very relevant but isn't belabored by any means.
The professor is top notch and brings with her everything that I'd expect from a Great Course lecturer. I hope to see more from her soon!

From Genesis to Job, the Hebrew scriptures contain some of the most influential stories in Western civilization. But what do these stories tell us about daily life in ancient Israel? And why do they still speak to us today? In 24 captivating lectures, Professor Chapman introduces you to the stories of the Judeans in exile and grounds them in their historical context, giving you a grand vision of history as presented in the scriptures.

Absolutely Fantastic
Revisado: 11-12-23
This was exactly what I hoped for—a scholarly treatment of life in Israel and the Levant during the events described in the New Testament. The lecturer structured the course around the Hebrew Bible but referenced many other sources along the way to provide a more complete & accurate picture. Her narrative helped me understand the otherwise confusing events & people described by the Hebrew Bible.

Optimal Illusions traces the fascinating history of optimization from its roots in America’s founding principles to its modern manifestations.

Thoughtful and Insightful
Revisado: 10-19-23
This book expands systems thinking in a direction that is intuitive yet difficult to express. The author did an excellent job converting why it's not optimal for everything to be ceaselessly optimized, combining case studies, analysis, and discussion. She is also a terrific narrator!

Historia
Nerve agents are the world's deadliest means of chemical warfare. Nazi Germany developed the first military-grade nerve agents and massive industry for their manufacture. At the end of the Second World War, the Allies were stunned to discover this advanced and extensive program. The Soviets and Western powers embarked on a new arms race, amassing huge chemical arsenals. From their Nazi invention to the 2018 Novichok attack in Britain, Dan Kaszeta uncovers nerve agents' gradual spread across the world, despite international arms control efforts.

Solid primer on nerve agent history and technology
Revisado: 01-16-22
The author does a good job of giving an overview of nerve agents, including technical challenges, practical limitations, and political issues. I recommend that listeners start with Appendix A first, then move into Chapter 1. I had a lot of technical questions while listening that were ultimately answered by that appendix.
I liked that the author addressed conspiratorial thinking around nerve agents head on, which gives a non-expert listener a solid feel for the information warfare occuring in conjunction with these matters.
The narrator was good overall, albeit a little slow and robotic at times. I listened at 1.3x and it held my attention. The narrator didn't have any idiosyncrasies or mouth noises that sometimes can be distracting, which was nice.

Stellar performance by Dan as usual. Listening to this after the 2020 election is sobering.

I didn't know anything about this story going into it, but I really enjoyed it and found that it held my attention throughout. The narrators were good, the story was good, and I'm glad I took a chance on it.
