Historia
Conor O’Toole has never been anywhere like Cutters Neck, a gated community near Cape Cod. It’s a sweet deal for the summer: in exchange for tennis lessons, he receives free lodging in a luxurious guest cottage, far from the cramped Yonkers apartment he shares with his diabetic mother.

Stupid protagonist
Revisado: 12-29-24
The twists and turns the lead character had to take to wind up where he did were ridiculous. Not sure why I kept
listening.

Historia
To his customers and neighbors on 125th street, Ray Carney is an upstanding salesman of reasonably priced furniture, making a decent life for himself and his family. He and his wife Elizabeth are expecting their second child, and if her parents on Striver's Row don't approve of him or their cramped apartment across from the subway tracks, it's still home. Few people know he descends from a line of uptown hoods and crooks, and that his façade of normalcy has more than a few cracks in it. Cracks that are getting bigger all the time.

Great Narrator and Great Book!
Revisado: 01-20-23
I always cringe when I see an author narrated their book- sometimes they do ok, but I'd rather have a professional. But Eli Cranor was one of the best narrators I've ever listened to, and this was a great, sad and engrossing book.

Excruciating
Revisado: 04-17-19
This pains me because I love all of Tana French's previous books and the narrations have been top-notch. This has been a painful experience. I get so irritated that I've actually had to stop twice and listen to other books in between because the main character is such a whiner. The narrator does the best he can with this character, and his female characters are great, but mostly it's because the main character is whiny, long-winded and I just want to kill him most of the time. I was so looking forward to this newest book by Ms. French and I'm forcing myself to finish it, but I've got about 1.5 hours left and the story just totally jumped the shark, to add to the excruciating pain of having to listen to Toby whine about everything throughout the book.

A Wonderful Experience
Revisado: 06-03-05
An incredibly well-written, engrossing book that is even more enhanced by the great reader. He has a wonderful talent for individualizing each character, and Francine Prose has such a gift for writing real people- thoughts and feelings that just strike so close to the way we all would think and act. I loved this experience!
