Perhaps inspire him to write another best-selling book and prove his best years aren’t behind him… As Tyson begins to use the new desk, he finds himself writing copy at an unfathomable speed, becomes so focused on writing that he binges on all-night, all-day sessions that take a serious physical and psychological toll. Zach is 18. He is bright and articulate. He's also an alcoholic and in rehab instead of high school, but he doesn't remember how he got there. He's not sure he wants to remember. Something bad must have happened. Something really, really bad. Remembering sucks and being alive—well, what's up with that?

Historia
Mystery and horror. Poe, who remains one of the most iconic of American writers, died under haunting circumstances that reflect the two literary genres he took to new heights. Over the years, there has been a staggering amount of speculation about the cause of death, from rabies and syphilis to suicide, alcoholism, and even murder. But many of these theories are formed on the basis of the caricature we have come to associate with Poe: the gloomy-eyed grandfather of Goth, hunched over a writing desk with a raven perched on one shoulder, drunkenly scribbling his chilling masterpieces.

Demystifying the Master of the Macabre
Revisado: 02-17-23
Think you know Poe?
Think again.
Dawidziak impressively paints a portrait of Poe few in the mainstream public are aware of, and explores the most probable reasons for his death and how his final hours were spent.
Often sad, funny, and revealing, Dawidziak hits a home run with an impeccably researched and well told exploration of the man we all know simply as Poe.

Fun re-visit of a classic

Worth it just to hear the OG Jerry Dandridge, the inimitable Chris Sarandon, narrate. Mostly a retelling of the classic 80s film with some additional material. Definitely for fans of the film.

Irving pulls no punches
Revisado: 01-06-23
If you’ve read John Irving, or know anything about the man and his politics, then you know exactly what you are getting into when you read a JI novel. Here, he pulls no punches in his exploration of sexuality, family, and the human condition; nor does he take the easy road when criticizing Christian Conservatives and the modern GOP in America. If such frankness offends thee, read some TV big by Kirk Cameron, Cha Chi, or Kevin Sorbo instead. John Irving is not for you.

Casey Fletcher, a recently widowed actress trying to escape a streak of bad press, has retreated to the peace and quiet of her family’s lake house in Vermont. Armed with a pair of binoculars and several bottles of bourbon, she passes the time watching Tom and Katherine Royce, the glamorous couple living in the house across the lake. They make for good viewing—a tech innovator, Tom is powerful; and a former model, Katherine is gorgeous.

Sager is the king of rip-offs
Revisado: 06-23-22
Sager continues the trend of borrowing from better works and ruining them.
"House" is further ruined by absolute HORRENDOUS narration. It is nearly unlistenable. Believe the reviews. The narrator sounds like they stepped out of community theatre 101. Not what you'd expect from a professional production.
If Sager's work is your cup of tea, I'd advise reading a physical copy of this one.
If, like me, you're lukewarm on Sager in general... SKIP IT. Not worth the time, or the credit.
Sager has yet to spin an original yarn or have anyone even remotely likeable as a protagonist.

Another winner by TJ Klune
Revisado: 09-28-21
A gorgeous meditation on grief and death, told as only Klune can. Lively, pun intended, characters and an intriguing story make this one of Klune's best. Littered with Klune's trademark humor and quirkiness, "Under the Whispering Door" is one of those stories you wish would never end.
Kirt Graves's narration is pure perfection.
Klune continues to astonish. Worth a listen.
