Historia
Today, most Westerners still see the war in Afghanistan as a contest between democracy and Islamist fanaticism. That war is real, but it sits atop an older struggle between Kabul and the countryside, between order and chaos, between a modernist impulse to join the world and the pull of an older Afghanistan - a tribal universe of village republics permeated by Islam. Now, Tamim Ansary draws on his Afghan background, Muslim roots, and Western and Afghan sources to explain history from the inside out and to illuminate the long, internal struggle that the outside world has never fully understood.

Every American should listen to this.

Absolutely loved this book and Tamim Ansary's writing in general. I've also listened to Destiny Disrupted as well, and I would recommend listening to it along with Games Without Rules. Ansary is absolutely hilarious- I had to pause the book a few times so I could laugh at some of his commentary- which really helps when dealing with all the dark stuff. He was born and raised in Afghanistan but has lived in the US for a long time, so he's able to bridge the gaps of perspective and culture really well.
I read a lot of history, and the identity and opinions of the writers always come through in their work, so I think it's really important to read books written by an even-handed narrator. This book does a masterful job. I only wish it was published more recently so that I could hear what Ansary has to say about the present state of affairs in Afghanistan. I, like most young American adults, learned no Afghani history whatsoever when I was in school, and that's a pretty big problem given that America is trying to reshape their whole society.
TL;DR: Great book, fantastic performance, Americans who know nothing about why we are at war there should read this.

Historia
Molly Patel was only seven years old when the alien alliance known as the Covenant destroyed her homeworld and killed her family. As one of the few to escape the glassing of Paris IV, and despite the United Nations Space Command winning the war on behalf of humanity, Molly never forgot how much she had lost. Nine years later, when her adoptive parents - research scientists specializing in ancient Forerunner technology - are called to the mysterious and wondrous place known as Onyx, Molly vehemently objects.

Great, but too much humanization.
Revisado: 07-14-18
I appreciate the story and the message, but there were a few moments such as an Unggoy actually crying with tears. There is only one species on Earth that cries with tears and its humans. I highly doubt any other species anywhere in the galaxy would do the same. There were a few other moments that felt similar. In addition it felt rushed towards the end of the novel there was a little bit too much deus ex machina towards the end to make the plot line up neatly. And too much explaining of what's going on and what to do by the characters. Still up until the end I really enjoyed it and thought it was well written... That was sort of a Hollywood ending though, and not in a good way.

Historia
Golan Trevize, former councilman of the First Foundation, has chosen the future, and it is Gaia. A superorganism, Gaia is a holistic planet with a common consciousness so intensely united that every dewdrop, every pebble, every being, can speak for all - and feel for all. It is a realm in which privacy is not only undesirable, it is incomprehensible. But is it the right choice for the destiny of mankind? While Trevize feels it is, that is not enough. He must know.

Sorry Larry Mckeever :(

I haven't finished this book yet, but Larry McKeever is awful! I have listened to the rest of the Foundation series and enjoyed them immensely. Scott Brick was the narrator and while I don't think he is amazing; he is infinitely better than McKeever. Every other sentence uttered by McKeever grates on my nerves, like fingernails on a chalkboard. It's not that his voice is bad per se. It's that his voice is boring, and somehow annoying at the same time. As if that isn't bad enough all of his characters sounding exactly the same so I am not sure which character is speaking sometimes. Again I actually thought this about Scott Brick a little bit but his characters have loads of personality by comparison. I never thought that a narrator would have such an effect on my overall perception of a book, but I was wrong. I don't know, the best thing I can say about McKeever is maybe I was spoiled by Scott Brick and maybe his performance just falls flat by comparison. I wish I knew what Audible/Amazon was thinking when they chose McKeever to narrate this novel. All I know is Scott Brick probably wasn't available.
