Growing up mortal, I only knew a few things about cultivators. They like their hierarchies, they hate disrespect, and if you leave one out in deep space long enough, they'll go homicidally insane.

far too sappy and emo.
Revisado: 06-04-23
I like it when a movie or a book make a reference to its own title... like when they only do it once. ffs I get it! You are flaling against infinity, stop mentioning that already.
also, don't bother if you are expecting some sort of interesting growth story or action filled book. this book is just depressing and boring.
Only part I liked about this book is that it has an interesting world without everyone being a chinese.
narrator does a great job, but is utterly wasted on this book.

so when does he become... good?
Revisado: 09-28-22
he is suppose to be op, but this is the most frustrating and weak supposedely op mc. author is trying to copy Lindon very poorly with his mc and power related to hunger. it is book 4 already this series is just getting frustrating now.
and tooooo many pointless characters with pointless bloated fights. author should hire an editor already, at least half of the book could be gone and have no problem. Talented individual like travis baldree is wasted on this series.

Buy this when book 17 comes out
Revisado: 07-15-20
I 100% recommend that you purchase this book when Battleground comes out, this only serves as a setup for book 17 and goes nowhere real quick. This book is like literary C@@k tease for book 17. Jim Butcher should have delayed this book till September so this book can be a whole books with Battleground being part of it.
One thing really made me frustrated with this book is how much redundant internal monologue Harry does, there are so many instance Harry goes on about winter mantle I started rolling my eyes when he went on about how much of a monster he is becoming for god knows how many times. We get it! we have read cold days and skin game, we don't need another book to reiterate same point AGAIN.

Historia
The first story ever told left a scar on the skin of the universe, with its characters doomed to an endless cycle of reincarnation and death. Trapped by his enemies, Daniel Faust - magician, mobster, and newly-minted knight of hell - has been cast in the role of the eternal Thief. Now, the story is dead-set on writing his final chapter, the one that ends with a knife in his back. The curse can’t be broken without tracking down the original Thief. The truth is buried beneath the legacy of a long-dead stage magician and a cache of occult relics from the 1940s.

Did I skip a volume?
Revisado: 02-13-20
What the hell is Wisdom's Grave? I mean I know that Schaefer has written a trilogy of that name, but I skipped it figuring it would be sub par as Harmony Black series. Am I suppose to listen to that to get what happened?
It was a great story, but seriously why not you know... explain what happened in more substantial manner?

Historia
FBI agent Harmony Black and her team, Vigilant Lock, face a new type of threat: one from beyond the stars. They'd always heard the Red Knight was an urban legend: in 1954, three years before Sputnik launched, a mysterious satellite was sighted circling Earth, though no power on the planet had such technology.

Inept Main characters
Revisado: 05-22-16
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Putting Characters in actual danger when they are facing insurmountable odds will actually put some spice into this blend fanfic-like series.
What do you think your next listen will be?
I hated last book, but I like the author and love the Faust Series. So I gave next book in the Harmony series a second chance, and I didn't need to do that. I will be skipping book 3 of this series and wait for main series (but if Harmony story arch is any indication of how Schaefer is going to be writing his book, I will be skipping him entirely.).
What does Christina Traister bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Very disticnt voices for every character, but I wish she would stop buttering up male characters like Cody (a.k.a. Harmony's wet dream).
I feel she is truly wasted on this trash of a series.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Anger and Disappointment.
Any additional comments?
In order to make inept protagonists survive and triumph through this fanfic, Schaefer has made previously enigmatic and merciless oppositions and characters go through 'ineptness patch'.
It is infuriating how main characters get away with shits by simply being main characters in the book. This books starts with Mary Sue and ends with Mary Sue.
Skip this series and hope Faust series doesn't turn out like this.

Historia
Harmony Black is much more than your average FBI special agent. In addition to being a practicing witch, she's also an operative for Vigilant Lock, an off-the-books program created to battle occult threats - by any means necessary. Despite her dedication to fighting the monsters threatening society, Harmony has become deeply conflicted about her job. Her last investigation resulted in a pile of dead bodies, and she suspects the wrong people are being punished for it.

Good work, but shitty character.
Revisado: 05-19-16
What would have made Harmony Black better?
Geee I dunno, make her pay for her dumbass naive view of the world that she doesn't grasp.
What could Craig Schaefer have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Not having dumbass character that throws away all the established knowledge from Faust series and rehashes everything with the most annoying stupid dumbass bitches of a characters. I wished and begged for Harmony and Jessie to die or get maimed by demon and things they don't understand.
What about Christina Traister’s performance did you like?
Realllly good. I usually don't like female VA doing male voice and vice versa, but her and Tess Irondale might be my new favorite female VA.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Great performance.
I am willing to chug through this dumbass's off shoot side storyline so I can get all I can with main series.
Any additional comments?
Fucking make all characters suffer for their stupidity.

Good, but feels bit dragged on
Revisado: 06-13-15
Would you listen to The Never Hero again? Why?
I might when second book comes out.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Never Hero?
Final battle.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Made me want to skip some chapters, usually I like author doing extensive character development, but it felt very overdone in this instance.
Any additional comments?
supporting characters felt way too cliche, only worthwhile and interesting characters were Johnanthan, Blond man in black (not sure saying his name will be spoiler), and Grant.
Very interesting premise though, but it felt like I have read some manga with similar premise (for an example; Gantz, Parasyte).
but still would read second book, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone based on how 1st book is though.
