This heartwarming story was brought to life by an amazing narrator. Like Linus, the children won my heart and I am forever changed. I haven't enjoyed a book thos much in a long time.

Historia
Born to a prominent Chicago judge and his stifled socialite wife, Mia Dennett moves against the grain as a young inner-city art teacher. One night, Mia enters a bar to meet her on-again, off-again boyfriend. But when he doesn't show, she unwisely leaves with an enigmatic stranger. With his smooth moves and modest wit, Colin Thatcher seems at first like a safe one-night stand. But following Colin home will turn out to be the worst mistake of Mia's life.

Not a fan
Revisado: 09-15-23
The first half was excellent but the second half dragged. This book drips with privilege...."poor little rich girl." The description in the last chapter of a person of color was racist and ensured I will never buy a book from this author. Narrator was good, except when she would use a whine to show distress. The twist was interesting but also showed what an awful human Mia was

Historia
In this sequel to Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Taker, we're once again transported to Spokane, 1901. A body discovered in Hangman Creek looks to be the result of an accidental fall, but what begins as a "simple" mystery for Thomas Carew and his twin brother, Bernard, quickly becomes a lot more complicated, including implications that tie in with the bombings at the Idaho mines, and perhaps even President McKinley's planned visit.

Spokane is my hometown and I enjoyed this book. The narrator's voice is beautiful until she switches to male characters. I found it so irritating I almost didn't finish. I may buy the hard copy for book 3 rather than listen on audible.

Historia
On the Caribbean island of Saint Domingue, an island consumed by the flames of revolution, a senseless attack leaves only one survivor - an infant girl. She falls into the hands of two French émigrés, Henri and Solange Fournier, who take the beautiful child they call Ruth to the bustling American city of Savannah. This book is Mammy's observations, not her journey. very little was said about how Mammy felt, just her telling a story about her owners.

Historia
Marion Zetland lives with her domineering older brother, John, in a crumbling mansion on the edge of a northern seaside resort. A timid spinster in her 50s who still sleeps with teddy bears, Marion does her best to live by John's rules, even if it means turning a blind eye to the noises she hears coming from behind the cellar door...and turning a blind eye to the women's laundry in the hamper that isn't hers. For years she's buried the signs of John's devastating secret into the deep recesses of her mind - until the day John is crippled by a heart attack.

Historia
The Bell Jar chronicles the crack-up of Esther Greenwood: brilliant, beautiful, enormously talented, and successful but slowly going under - maybe for the last time. Sylvia Plath masterfully draws the reader into Esther's breakdown with such intensity that Esther's insanity becomes completely real and even rational, as probable and accessible an experience as going to the movies. Such deep penetration into the dark and harrowing corners of the psyche is an extraordinary accomplishment and has made The Bell Jar a haunting American classic.

I fell in love with the characters!
Revisado: 02-18-13
What did you love best about The Kitchen House?
Truly a book about love and family and the triumph of the human spirit. I didn't want this book to end and two days after finishing still find myself pondering.
Have you listened to any of Orlagh Cassidy and Bahni Turpin ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
The narration was wonderful.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Mama's unconditional love and strength moved me over and over again.
