Historia
In seaside Blueberry Cove, Maine, friends are just another word for family, and big-city politics take a backseat to local pride. But the real treasure on these shores is always love.... When DC lawyer Hannah McCrae heads home for her brother's wedding, she's dragging a lot of baggage along with her - and she doesn't mean suitcases. Betrayed personally and humiliated professionally, the last thing she wants is a new man. That's fine with square-jawed, rugged contractor Calder Blue.

the producer needs to watch for accuracy in pronouncing place names. Very distracting to hear Cal-lay instead of Cal-lus accent on the 2nd syllable. A cute story otherwise.

Historia
In the early hours of a quiet weekend morning in Manhattan's Diamond District, a brutal triple murder shocks the city. Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs quickly take the case. Curiously, the killer has left behind a half-million dollars' worth of gems at the murder scene, a jewelry store on 47th street. As more crimes follow, it becomes clear that the killer's target is not gems but engaged couples themselves.

Not for me
Revisado: 01-03-20
My first book by Deaver, and probably the last. I re-read the reviews when I was almost done - wondering what I missed. I had a hard time schlogging to the end (and at this writing, I have not finished it). I didn't care about any of the characters and there were too many side plots, but (again) I don't care enough to find out how they all resolve. Maybe with a different narrator, I might have finished. Every character had a blase I-know-more-than-you-and-I-really-can't-be-bothered attitude that was hard to shake. I actually tried to imagine one of my preferred readers instead! Of note: I listened to this guy narrate another author and got the same type of narration - and swore off that author too. So I'm pretty sure that is the key to my disappointment. This will be a rare returned item for me.

This might be one to trade in...
Revisado: 05-06-14
I have read other Iris Johansen stories and really liked them. I was very disappointed with this one though - the story was silly (the ghost element) and contrived. None of the characters were likable, even the ones I was supposed to like.
The reader did not impress me. The one person with an accent was lovely. The children were okay. The male voices sounded grimaced and anquished.
Unlike some other reviewers, I didn't quit, but I frequently wondered; "Is it over yet?" I don't often review, but this book cannot be recommended.

Historia
Best-selling author Jennet Conant brings us a stunning account of Julia and Paul Child's experiences as members of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) in the Far East during World War II. She also details the tumultuous years when they were caught up in the McCarthy Red spy hunt in the 1950s and behaved with bravery and honor. It is a fascinating portrait of a group of idealistic men and women who were recruited by the citizen spy service, slapped into uniform, and dispatched to wage political warfare.

Also disappointed
Revisado: 06-01-13
I have to agree with the review titled "bait & switch" - the book was mostly about Jane Foster with the Childs a footnote to the story. After the first chapter, which tells of Mr. Child's summons to the HUAC inquest, the other references to the Childs seem to be in the "Gee I better mention them since their name is in the title" realm of thought. There was a little on their courtship, and inclusion of the Childs marriage was an afterthought. "Oh yeah, they got married a few years before.." The rest was pretty much Jane Jane Jane, which didn't seem necessary, since apparently Jane wrote her own darn book before she died. Egad!
Ms. Maxwell's performance was okay and pleasant to listen to, so I did stick with it - all the while hoping the story would come back around to fulfill the promise of the title.
I've had other books that I've not liked, but this is the first audible book that I've felt cheated with. For that reason, I would say "Buyer Beware!" before recommending it. Anyway... there are plenty of books that I have loved and will love, so I'm moving on.

Historia
Herman Wouk's sweeping epic of World War II, which begins with The Winds of War and continues here in War and Remembrance, stands as the crowning achievement of one of America's most celebrated storytellers. Like no other books about the war, Wouk's spellbinding narrative captures the tide of global events - and all the drama, romance, heroism, and tragedy of World War II - as it immerses us in the lives of a single American family drawn into the very center of the war's maelstrom.

Take a trip into history
Revisado: 01-16-13
Which character – as performed by Kevin Pariseau – was your favorite?
Amazing characterizations. Too many to choose from. I gave Mr, Pariseau a standing ovation at the end.. okay.. I just applauded as I was driving in my car.. but the performance is ovation-worthy.
Any additional comments?
I 've read this book and its predecessor, Winds of War, several times. Listening brought new life to the characters and made them even more endearing than ever. Recent experiences, including a trip to Washington's Holocaust museum and learning about a relative's Naval service in the Pacific, brought the story even closer to my heart. A very good read...

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
It's good to hear stories not riddled with profanities. Recommended for
Any additional comments?
This is a compilation of short essays and anecdotes by a variety of women. About half were amusing, others were interesting and pleasant, and some were just one-liners. Think: Chicken Soup stories without the tears. The performance was okay. The different segments could have been more clearly defined - they were captioned immediately after the preceding segment with the author's name stated with out of place enthusiasm - but then again, that's when you knew there was a change. It wasn't bad, just not up to the hype/anticipation.
