Historia
In segregated High Cotton, Texas, in 1964, the racial divide is as clear as the railroad tracks running through town. It’s also where two girls are going to shake things up. This is the last summer of thirteen-year-old Corky Corcoran’s childhood, and her family hires a Haitian housekeeper who brings her daughter, America, along with her. Corky is quick to befriend America and eager to share her favorite new “grown-up” novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. America’s take on it is different and profoundly personal.

Couldn’t finish it
Revisado: 03-19-24
I had a hard time with the narrator. I listened on 1.5 speed for most of it but I can’t finish it. I just don’t care.

Historia
When Lark Ashwood's beloved grandmother dies, she and her sisters are bequeathed an unfinished quilt. Finishing it could be the reason Lark's been looking for to stop running from the past. Hannah can't believe she's back in Bear Creek, the tiny town she sacrificed everything to escape from. But the driven musician's plan is to renovate her grandmother's house and leave as fast as humanly possible. Stay-at-home mom Avery has built her perfect life, but at a cost. This summer, the Ashwood women must lean on each other like never before if they are to stitch their family back together.

Could be good…
Revisado: 10-24-23
A little too much bickering & no difference in voices. They all sound the same. In my opinion.

Historia
Not only do Southerners talk slowly, but sometimes the whole language is hard to understand. No one realizes that more than Memphis belle Leelee Satterfield. Watching her tackle life and love in Vermont was only the tip of the iceberg when it came to antics, charades, mischief, and romance. Now that she’s back in Memphis, and starting a new relationship with Peter, the Yankee chef from her New England inn, you’d think she’d sit back and enjoy her newly crafted life back home in Dixie. But that just wouldn’t be as much fun.

Can’t listen…
Revisado: 07-29-23
I can’t listen to this narrator. She cannot do a southern accent or man’s voice.

Historia
Some twins communicate in a secret language all their own. For Whiskey and Charlie Ferns, the two-way alphabet (alpha, bravo, charlie, delta) whispered back and forth over their crackly walkie-talkies is the best they can do. But as the brothers grow up, they grow apart. Whiskey is everything Charlie is not - bold, daring, carefree - and Charlie blames his brother for always stealing the limelight, always striving ahead while seeming to push Charlie back.

I loved this book! It’s the kind of story where you know the characters like friends & are sad to see it end. Perfect narration. Whiskey & Charlie is going into my favorites so I can listen to it again!

Historia
The horse Susan Richards chose for rescue wouldn't be corralled into her waiting trailer. Instead, Lay Me Down, a former racehorse with a foal close on her heels, walked right up that ramp and into Susan's life. This gentle creature, malnourished, plagued by pneumonia and an eye infection, had endured a rough road, but somehow her heart was still open and generous.

Where oh where is Michael Beck?!?!
Revisado: 10-22-21
I love Grisham novels & think that Michael Beck is the voice of Grisham. Why he's not reading this book & The Whistler is beyond me. I know it's a female lead character, but he can do voices & does them very well. The women who read this book & The Whistler have no idea how to do voices, so it's impossible to differentiate between characters. I almost gave up, but stuck it out until the end, & was glad it was over. By far not my favorite.
