I love, love, loved this novel. I also loved the narrator. In fact, I adored Caroline Lee so much after these three novels that I was disappointed to find that she hasn't narrated anything else. I really enjoyed the fairy-tale theme woven throughout the book. It was wonderfully engaging.

This was a very entertaining novel. The only downside is that it was too short. I would've liked to have more. Highly recommend for a clean, wholesome love story!

This novel was highly entertaining and very gripping. I finished it all in one weekend. I could not turn it off. Problem was, the narrator wasn't so great. She read too fast, and barely paused. It was distracting and took away from the story. I had just listened to a novel read by the brilliant Caroline Lee, so the difference was like night and day. Still, the author was talented enough to keep me listening. I can't wait for more from Susanna Kearsley!

I have to say, I LOVED the narrator. Much better than the other gal who read Susanna Kearsley's other novel. Her ability to go from an English to an American to a Scottish accent was flawless. The story was gripping, and I stayed up all hours of the night trying to finish this. The ending was so satisfying, even if you could see it coming a mile away. I truly enjoyed this book. The genealogy in it was fun, and the history was rich and entertaining. I'm sure the author is frustrated that she's compared to Diana Gabaldon. Is every legal thriller compared to John Grisham? I found they were two different stories enjoyed for two very different reasons. I can't wait for more. Well done to both author and narrator!

It was a beautiful, haunting story, and one I couldn't stop listening to -- the very end just about made me cry. I loved it, and absolutely recommend. It's long, but worth it.

I love all novels, of every genre. This story line and plot seemed so interesting! Right up my alley. But I could not get through it. I made it maybe 25 minutes in, and I had to stop. Clearly the author is a great storyteller, but not a great writer. Every line is, "he said" "she said" "he said" "she said" "Ronan said" "Sarah said" "Katie said" "Declan said" -- it not only gets exhausting, but it completely takes away from the story line and frustrates me. At one point while listening, after hearing the 15th "said" right in a row, I had to stop it. How about "he answered" or "she declared" or "Sarah insisted" or whatever? It was a huge hiccup and distraction, and I just could not get past it. Maybe it's not so glaring in the print version, but in audio it just made me want to scream. Too bad, because it sounded like a very cool story line. But after spending $17 on this, I'm moving on.

I loved this book!

Books like this come along only once in a very rare while. I loved it! If you're a fan of Jane Austen or Edith Wharton, you'll enjoy it immensely. I judge a book by how badly I want to get back to it and keep listening, and I finished this one in two days. The characters are well-developed, and the narrative beautifully written. The descriptions of the wealth and opulence of the gilded age were breathtaking -- as a female, I really enjoyed the detail about the clothing and manners and protocol. I found myself smiling so many times at the author's use of words, or the impeccable way her characters speak. As one who loves words, I found myself really appreciating how well the use of them flowed perfectly with the desired effect of grandeur and eloquence. Although unlike some gilded age novels, the flowery, descriptive language only added to the plot of the book rather than distracting from it. I fell in love with Cora, as well as all of the other characters -- even the ones I secretly didn't like. And the ending was perfect! The narrator was also magnificent as well. Some narrators really have a hard time pulling off the English accent/American accent mix between the characters, but Kellgren does it perfectly. I loved the way each of her characters sounded, and it only added to the complexity of this book. I thought overall it was fantastic and would highly recommend it!
