Surprisingly Awesome
Revisado: 03-09-24
The REAL story behind so many events that we all remember from the 90s and 2000s. Exposes the ugly underbelly of the way the media treats women and the unfair standards to which they are held compared to men. I wish nothing but love and healing for this incredible woman.

Hoo boy. Where was the editor on this?? Did anyone proofread this book? It had information, certainly, and I absolutely did learn things, but it was astonishingly badly written. I'd suggest taking a drink every time a sentence is missing a word, but I don't want anyone to die of alcohol poisoning.

Food for Thought
Revisado: 01-17-21
I got this book because I've noticed a few of the men that I've dated running a stupid game and I was curious where in the world they had gotten the idea that such behavior would help them to achieve their desired outcome.
I have never had any trouble getting dates, but I have been curious about the mechanics of attraction. What is it that makes people attracted to one person and not another? This book offered some thought-provoking answers to that question.
As far as this book's usefulness as a "how to" guide, it scored pretty low for me. This author isn't citing studies or statistics. He's mostly using characters in works of fiction written by men in centuries past to illustrate his point. It doesn't take a genius to see that the author is using the very strategies of seduction described in this book to seduce the reader into thinking that it's good.
Finally, it should be noted by every reader that some of these suggestions are truly rapey. Anything more than the lightest touch could actually get you criminal charges. Be careful, and perhaps consider whether you actually need to get laid That badly.

Unexpectedly Fantastic
Revisado: 12-30-20
I expected this book to tell me about things like body language, but what I didn't expect is that it's actually a great overview of what love actually is and what creates a lasting relationship. I didn't expect so broad a topic to be covered so well in so short of a book, but it really did succinctly cover the main points of the bulk of literature that I've read about the art and science of attraction and love.

Mind-blowing!!
Revisado: 12-06-20
I was afraid this book would be either too heavy or too melodramatic, but it turned out to be neither. This is a remarkable, enthralling tale of determination, pluck, and survival. The author is remarkably self-aware and insightful. She holds nothing back and you can't help but admire her as well as relate to her. Great choice for a book club, lots of excellent points to discuss. You will be dumbfounded to learn about what really goes on in North Korea and maybe even be inspired to put some good into the world after reading this book.

Historia
Before Gabrielle Hamilton opened her acclaimed New York restaurant Prune, she spent 20 fierce, hard-living years trying to find purpose and meaning in her life. Above all she sought family, particularly the thrill and the magnificence of the one from her childhood that, in her adult years, eluded her. Hamilton’s ease and comfort in a kitchen were instilled in her at an early age when her parents hosted grand parties, often for more than 100 friends and neighbors. The smells of spit-roasted lamb, apple wood smoke, and rosemary garlic marinade became necessary to her.

Didn't Sympathize with Narrator
Revisado: 10-17-20
I actually groaned in frustration frequently. Narrator isn't very self aware and is condescending to others. It was hard to relate to her and find commonality with her, because I just didn't like her. It's a lot of "punching down". Can we just let people enjoy the things? She speaks condescending about things like people who enjoy vanilla lattes as if none of her readers fall into any of the numerous categories she believes are lower than her.

Incredible Masterpiece
Revisado: 08-25-20
This book was amazing. I can't believe I haven't read it before. It's perfect for a book club, lots to talk about. I loved the heroine and really related to her. All of the characters seemed so real. So many interesting themes brought to light. I wish I could hug this author, this novel is a masterpiece and deserves as many fans as Pride and Prejudice.

Even the smartest among us can feel inept as we fail to figure out which light switch or oven burner to turn on, or whether to push, pull, or slide a door. The fault, argues this ingenious - even liberating - audiobook, lies not in ourselves, but in product design that ignores the needs of users and the principles of cognitive psychology. The Design of Everyday Things shows that good, usable design is possible. The rules are simple: make things visible, exploit natural relationships that couple function and control, and make intelligent use of constraints.
