Painful to listen too
Revisado: 04-27-22
Had I realized this book was written in first-person present I would have had second thoughts on listening to it. (I got it free) Not having looked at the length, I also didn’t realize these were all short stories.
I hate giving bad reviews, but the narrator trashes what might have been okay stories. Why? Aside from having a female narrate a both male characters in the first story, she drones on in a deadpan voice and doesn’t even bother to try differentiating between either character or any character for that matter. It took me several lines before my mind changed from ‘The killer is married?’ to ‘Crap, we’re in a cops head now’. Followed up by, is he divorced and gay, or is the partner he’s talking about his buddy from the job… or both?
The girl tied to a chair doesn’t sound at all scared but bored to tears.
The only murder taking place in these stories is the narrator.
The second story is truly awful. The number of things wrong is too many to count, and it’s not the narrator’s fault.
I'm not wasting time on the third.

It’s hard to know what’s meant to be healthy. If you read the news, you’ll see headlines praising a food one day, and then condemning it the next. You’ll see people selling you miracle cures for conditions that they’ve invented. You’ll realize that powerful industries control the information that’s given the most airtime, and that ultimately, you’re better off trying to find out the truth for yourself.

Lots of information in a compact book
Revisado: 03-19-22
I grabbed this book (Yes I got it freed) because I was hoping to find new information I didn't already know. The good news is that it has a lot of good information.
The issues had with the book was not about its content... much. There are editing issues. In one of the chapters (I think it was Chapter 6) where someone claps and is talking in the background. Then there is the 'Please review this book' three hours in. While I understand that reviews are gold bars to writers, this push for a review came off as d!ck!$h at best. Another thing that irritated me was the 'superfood' label. Any person with an ouch of common sense knows this idiotic buzzword is something marketers take advantage of and try to convince people that food X is a silver bullet.

Historia
When mysterious fires begin plaguing the little mountain town of Big Lake, Arizona, it doesn't take Sheriff Jim Weber long to realize that a serial arsonist is on the loose and has to be stopped before somebody dies or the entire forest goes up in flames. With the help of C.C. Callahan, a beautiful Deputy Fire Marshal, the sheriff begins the hunt while dealing with an upstart newspaper publisher hell-bent on smearing his good name and ruining his reputation. As the fires continue, fingers of blame are pointed and everybody in Big Lake wonders whose home or business will be the next.

Different Narrator
Revisado: 09-25-20
While my wife and I love Nick Russell's books, this narrator doesn't work for us.
All the characters were deadpan, what was supposed to be snappy dialogue fell flat.
And all the female voices sounded like they were bored to tears.
Loved the story, though.

Historia
Three bank robbers are on the run following a rather unusual heist. They decide to seek shelter for the night in a tiny, seemingly harmless town. However, the following morning they awaken to discover that the town they chose is actually some form of disturbingly cheery utopia complete with sickly sweet citizens who have the rather odd habit of breaking into perfectly choreographed song and dance numbers. When they try to leave, they discover that getting out of this bizarre little village may not be as easy as they thought.

Long winded
Revisado: 09-24-20
The narrator was great, but someone should have told the author that excessive exposition does not a good book make.
Much of the wonderful witty banter was buried in long winded monologues.
I would have given the book a four star even with this newbie mistake if the last three hours hadn't felt like a week long church sermon.

Historia
Empty streets are littered with stalled-out cars, buses, and motorcycles. A sunless and moonless sky is covered with an enormous barrier that prevents any view of the heavens. Nothing stirs. The air is oppressive and there is no wind, not even the softest breeze. It was supposed to be a typical day for the five friends, but they wake up to discover that they are left alone on earth. The world that they knew is gone. All that is left is silence, pervasive, absolute silence.

Hidden Gem
Revisado: 08-20-20
Void Fate is not our usual type of story, but both my wife and I are glad we listened to it. And yes, we listened to it all in one go.
It was an intriguing mix of Langdoliers and Twilight Zone. A nice psychological thriller, where the reader\listener gets a glimpse of different perspectives. Sorry, can say much more without spoilers.
The narration was good, but we had trouble distinguishing characters\voice.

Couldn't keep my attention
Revisado: 08-13-20
Listening to this short story, I kept wondering why I couldn’t get into it. Was it the narrator who read so slow as to extend the length of the audio book, or the excessive leading pronouns that made me think of a first-grade reader, and made the main character borderline narcissistic?
As I listened on with the narration speed increased, I started wondering about the plot. Granted, cozy mysteries do bend the rules of credibility in order to make a good story, but the author seems to have done this with a heavy hand, even when unnecessary.
You’ll either love or hate this story, but it’s not for me.

It was here he wrote The Hound of The Baskervilles, brought Sherlock Holmes back to life in "The Empty House", and entertained guests such as writer J.M. Revisado: 07-18-20
For those who've never read Poe's work, do remember that he was born in 1809 and died in 1849 at the age of 40.
His style is very poetic, and not for everyone.
My wife and I were raised on these classics, and the movies that were based on them.
Kevin Theis may not be Vincent Price or Bela Lugosi, but he does well.
It's easy to imagine him as an actor on the stage.

Good introduction for first timers
Revisado: 07-15-20
If you don't know anything about herbal remedies, this is a nice introduction.
For those who want to consistently use various remedies and don't have the greatest memory, I'd suggest a physical book for ease of looking up what you'd need. Besides, you can't dump everything a plant is good for in a single one hour audiobook.
