Historia
Timed for a trial that will capture national attention, When the Night Comes Falling examines the mysterious murders of the four University of Idaho students. Having covered this case from its start, Edgar award winning investigative reporter Howard Blum takes listeners behind the scenes of the police manhunt that eventually led to suspected killer, Bryan Christopher Kohberger, and uncovered larger, lurid questions within this unthinkable tragedy.

Interesting way of telling the story

Interesting details about the Idaho murders. It felt like there could have been more info included, but it was easy to follow and left me wanting to learn more about the case.

Historia
When Steph Catudal met her husband Rivs, she thought that the love, stability, and warmth she shared with her husband had finally dispelled her pent-up anger and grief over the loss of her father and her faith. But when Rivs became ill and was put into coma at the height of the pandemic, the painful memories of her childhood—watching her father die of cancer—came flooding back.

Great story, beautifully written
Revisado: 11-06-23
This book kept me listening all weekend, wanting to keep hearing the story. I do wish the author had read the book (I have seen videos/heard interviews with the author and know her voice sounds different). I appreciate hearing memoirs in the authors own voice, but even though it was read by someone else, the story was thought provoking and engaging.

Historia
From the time Courtney E. Martin strapped her daughter, Maya, to her chest for long walks, she was curious about Emerson Elementary, a public school down the street from her Oakland home. She learned that White families in their gentrifying neighborhood largely avoided the majority-Black, poorly-rated school. As she began asking why, a journey of a thousand moral miles began. Learning in Public is the story, not just Courtney’s journey, but a whole country’s.

Thought provoking
Revisado: 02-18-23
I found this book so thought provoking and well done. I appreciated the research and candor that went into weaving a personal story with a controversial topic of race/equity.

Historia
Zibby Owens has become a well-known personality in the publishing world. Her infectious energy, tasteful authenticity, and smart, steadfast support of authors started in childhood, a precedent set by the profound effect books and libraries had on her own family. But after losing her closest friend on 9/11 and later becoming utterly stressed out and overwhelmed by motherhood, Zibby was forgetting what made her her. She turned to books and writing for help.

Beautifully written

As a social worker who has worked with families dealing with Alzheimer’s - I have seen the devastation of this disease up close - but to hear Stephanie’s words and thoughts are a beautiful and breathtaking look at how a person/family watches their loved one slip away. She weaves nature, memories, and complex family dynamics into her story with a seamless prose and vivid descriptions. I loved every chapter.

Historia
What would happen if you quit your life for a year? In a pre-COVID-19 world, the Wheelan family decided to find out; leaving behind work, school, and even the family dogs to travel the world on a modest budget. Equal parts "how-to" and "how-not-to" - and with an eye toward a world emerging from a pandemic - We Came, We Saw, We Left is the insightful and often hilarious account of one family's gap-year experiment.

Great story, bad narration
Revisado: 05-15-22
The story, humor, and flow of the book was great. I laughed out loud and thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the Wheelan family travels. I wish the narration had been by the author or someone who would sound more conversational and less like a radio DJ or game show host - his vocal inflection was cringy.
