Extraordinary Story telling
Revisado: 03-24-24
Second time I listened to this one in several years. The plot continued to hold my interest, & at the same time I picked up different nuances regarding each character. I enjoy listening to books as I garden or do creative projects, & the author added multiple complications to each situation.

Historia
Pi Patel is an unusual boy. The son of a zookeeper, he has an encyclopedic knowledge of animal behavior and a fervent love of stories and practices not only his native Hinduism but also Christianity and Islam. When Pi is 16, his family emigrates from India to North America aboard a Japanese cargo ship along with their zoo animals bound for new homes. The ship sinks. Pi finds himself alone in a lifeboat, his only companions a hyena, an orangutan, a wounded zebra, and Richard Parker, a 450 pound Bengal tiger.

Imaginative storytelling.
Revisado: 01-21-24
A very appropriate beginning was Pi’s story of growing up with zoo animals, However, my favorite part was about the child exploring different religious experiences , & his clever way of introducing his parents to all he had learned, while the four different prelates reaction to Pi’s experience of each different Faith was such a hoot!
The tragedy of the ship sinking and Pi’s subsequent escape with 3 zoo animals was well written but a bit long.
On the whole, I enjoyed the book as a provocative story that will stay with me as a reminder to stay open minded rather than judgmental. I also remembered that I read this book in High School…maybe 60+ yrs ago. Well worth the listen.
P. S. Fish, turtles, & birds at sea were imaginatively drawn & lent realism to that segment of the book.

I usually dont enjoy terror novels but this was a good distraction during my husband’s week long hospital stay. Character development was interesting for about 4 main characters.

So good I read it Twice!
Revisado: 05-15-22
I have always loved & respected horses, so this book got my attention from the get-go. However, the human experience that was portrayed among the many various characters was also most authentically drawn. People, like horses responses to life events from previous experiences can be predictable. However, this book provided me with much to ponder long after the finish. Our hero had many opportunities for giving up, but instead he carried on and kept growing. Inspiring. Educational. Fun read! Beside that, I love cowboys.

Historia
In 1895, two young men destined to make their mark on American life, Theodore Roosevelt and Henry Cabot Lodge, discovered they shared a common interest in the remarkable way ordinary Americans demonstrated the real character of the young nation. They were convinced that the brilliance of American liberty could best be found in the lives of everyday people, rather than in accounts of the famous and powerful.

I wish this were required reading for many current leaders. Now where is my next book about the authors? I will recommend to mt book club.

But she didn't expect to fall in love with her brilliant physics professor, Alden Whetstone. Every bit of 5 stars, but you must read/listen to the end.
Revisado: 04-14-21
What an authentic rendition of life as I remember it in the 1940’s until almost recently. The narrator was perfect with her calm rendition of things that came to pass, like the development of the atomic bomb, class stratification, innocence of American suburbia, naievety of generations. So many ideas to think about. I was about to quit over the episode with the hippies, but finally realized I was a part of that very real era, too. profound . Memorable. Tender.. almost Poetic. I think each reader will recognize some aspects of themself throughout the book. Mkb.

Hard to follow. I kept getting confused about who was who with all the flashbacks. Finally I just skipped a few chapters toward the end. I wouldn’t recommend this one.
