Historia
For as long as people have talked about UFOs, they have wondered about when and how the governments of the world will acknowledge them. Among people following the subject, that’s called Disclosure. In this second volume of the Richard Dolan Lecture Series, Historian Richard Dolan tackles an enormous subject. After explaining why UFOs are taken seriously in national security circles around the world, he provides his best analysis to date as to how the secrecy on UFOs has taken form, how it has corroded our society, and how it works internationally. He gives a fresh analysis on the black ...

Not worth It
Revisado: 03-13-25
This is an out-of-date (circa 2016-2017) collection of conspiracy theories. There isn’t a careful reasoned consideration of what a disclosure event might bring — just a bunch of generalities woven together by popular conspiracy theories.

Whether or not you believe everything that Luis Elizondo reports in this book, you can’t walk away from it without realizing that something odd is going on and has so for quite some time — something that certainly warrants additional investigation.

Using Christianity and Jesus Christ himself as the basis for a science fiction plot is not for the faint of heart. But, Douglas E. Richards does a brilliant job of it.

Historia
Lost at the far side of the sun, two pilots, five space tourists, and one fluffy dog explore a miniature planet steeped in mystery. The planet is small enough to circumnavigate in a few hours. Treetop clouds form in unusual shapes. And what's that rumble each morning? Even their remarkably perceptive pup hasn't figured that one out. Will they be marooned forever? It will take scientific ingenuity and a good sense of humor, but these marginally clever castaways stand a chance.

A Light-Hearted Adventure Story
Revisado: 02-10-23
If you’re looking for a light-hearted, non-serious adventure story, then this book is for you. Think something along the lines of Gilligan’s Island and The Gods Must Be Crazy, and set your expectations from there. Personally, I enjoyed listening to it during my grueling commutes. I didn’t have to think too hard or listen too carefully. But, it was enough to provide a nice, enjoyable escape while trying to cope with the LA traffic.

Some Great Ideas But a Tough Slog
Revisado: 08-03-22
Gerard O’Neill brought humanity some brilliant insights and inspiring visions during the 20th century. You can get a sense of some of them if you have the patience and willpower to slog your way through the tedious narration and, at times, seemingly stream of consciousness rendition.

Historia
The year is 2026. The US military has a new weapon in its arsenal: an intelligent life-form so versatile that it can not only create a new generation of weapons but can become a weapon itself - entering a host’s body to manipulate (or kill) them. Admiral James Curtiss is tasked with deploying the new weapons, first in Cuba, then Venezuela, then China. But the news of the military’s breakthrough has gotten out and there are menacing forces trying to steal it. What’s more, a single man has somehow harnessed the new power and has become something more than human - godlike.

This was a very engaging book. There was no shortage of action and lots to think about. But, I found the ending rather flat and unsatisfying.

Historia
A major new collection from "arguably the most important intellectual alive" ( The New York Times). Noam Chomsky is universally accepted as one of the preeminent public intellectuals of the modern era. Over the past thirty years, broadly diverse audiences have gathered to attend his sold-out lectures. Now, in Understanding Power, Peter Mitchell and John Schoeffel have assembled the best of Chomsky's recent talks on the past, present, and future of the politics of power.

Not What I Had Hoped
Revisado: 10-09-20
Knowing nothing about Chomsky and being intrigued by the 5-star review by some 1381 people, I figured I'd give this book a listen. While there is certainly some truth to what he says, I don't think it really requires over 22 hours to get the point across. Basically, Chomsky says those in power will shape, manipulate, or otherwise pervert the system to stay in power at the expense of all those less fortunate. And, the only way to improve the lot of the less fortunate is for such people to organize resistance to the oppressive tactics of those in power, but in a decentralized way that is difficult for those in power to suppress. He does a great job of selectively enumerating historical examples that support his narrative. But, underlying all of this narrative is an implication that those in power are engaged in some sort of highly coordinated, carefully orchestrated plot to suppress all of the rest of us, that the situation is inescapable and hopeless, and that the best we can do is tactically resist to make things here and there a little better. I found the implication of an orchestrated plot by those in power to suppress the rest of us a bit too much of a stretch -- maybe there are some here and there that seek to do that, but not coordination on the scale that Chomsky seems to imply. Frankly, his whole outlook was too depressing for me to continue listening after about the first 11 hours. I think there are more positive ways to view the world and the way society works within it and that the key to improving things involves positive, constructive action, not targeted resistance.

Couldn't Survive the Narration
Revisado: 11-30-19
I saw this book had 100 ratings -- all 5.0! While it seemed too good to be true, I couldn't imagine 100 ratings could all be wrong. I purchased the book with high hopes and eagerly set about listening to it. Immediately, however, I realized that there were problems with the narration, and I kicked myself for having not listened to a sample of the narration ahead of time. The narrator read the book in a word-by-word fashion as if just learning how to read. About every 4th minute he mispronounced a word that he should have known how to pronounce. I forced myself through the first two hours of the book; but, finally, I just couldn't take it anymore and gave up. The content wasn't too bad, but was certainly not enough to keep me listening.

Historia
It was just one year ago that she and her team of marine biologists had stunned the world with their incredible breakthrough. And now, they were about to do it again. But an ocean away, something strange was unfolding. Along a lonely coast in South America, an experimental Russian submarine, long thought to have been dismantled, has suddenly resurfaced. And the US Navy had taken notice, sending officers John Clay and Steve Caesare to investigate.

Even Better than the First Book in the Series!
Revisado: 10-06-18
While I enjoyed, Breakthrough, Book 1, Leap was even better! This story so fully kept my attention, that I worried a little bit about trying to drive while listening to it (I managed, though). The characters seemed a bit better fleshed out than in the first book, the overall story slightly more believable, and, again, a happy ending that is always so much better than slogging through some dirge. As with his first book, Michael Grumley does an excellent job of discussing the underlying technologies just enough to lend some realism to the story without becoming tedious in their treatment.

Worth the Read!
Revisado: 10-06-18
This book is refreshingly entertaining with a sufficient number of twists and turns to hold my attention during a long commute. The characters start out feeling a little bit one-dimensional, but improve over the course of the book (and get even better with the subsequent books in the series). There's a nice attention to technical detail that makes the story feel a little more solid than it otherwise would, but it's not overdone to the point of being tedious. And, of course, I can never resist a happy ending.
