The overall theme comes down to ordinary people making really bad choices for money. The writer, Don Donovan, expounds on each of the characters in such a way that I get caught up wondering how on earth they justify their motives. It is not your average “who done it” crime story like true to life families, cops, politicians who have the appearance of a good reputation and success but behind the scenes are greedy, corrupt, and dirty. It is almost real!

His voice is gritty enough to make the story dark and real. He has an irresistible provocative style making it difficult to stop just anywhere.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

To hear these stories rather than to read them sets the platform for imagining the players. There are three short stories and one of them have an emotional and the other a conspicuous sexual component that link the stories together. "The Stag Girl" is about a couple leading the listener to an anticipation of "will they or won't they". I little dirty, a little dark and plenty fast.

What made the experience of listening to Three Early Stories the most enjoyable?

A good short story must be descriptive enough to quickly identify the characters early on. Then, as quickly as the end arrives, one sentence changes everything you thought your character to be. The writer accomplishes a surprise but subtle ending.

What did you like best about this story?

Story telling was a way of life when I was growing up. Mike Dennis, is telling the story like we are all casually sitting on a porch on a quiet afternoon sharing old times.

Have you listened to any of Mike Dennis’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

He has the perfect tell tale voice.

I couldn't beleive!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

It is hard to fathom an actor like Al Pacino having to do 7 or 8 takes before he was psyched enough to play out a scene. But apparently it is what it took. It was also shocking to learn the film's opening received very negative reviews. The comments made would have suggested the movie would never make it.

Have you listened to any of Mike Dennis’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. I like his voice, his emphasis and clarity. He made it compelling and very interesting to learn all the details behind this movie.

For sure I will look for more audiobooks narrated by Mike Dennis. I really appreciated the work Damian Stevenson did in uncovering every last detail connected to this movie. This is a book for anyone who has seen the movie.

Would you consider the audio edition of Setup on Front Street to be better than the print version?

Only because hearing it makes the story alive and real. I listened to it in my car driving a long distance. When I arrived to my destination I had to listen to the end.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Setup on Front Street?

When Don Roy Doyle fell in love with the hooker.

Kill the pimp mayor.
