Good story
Revisado: 02-04-25
The writer knew his Ann Arbor and Maine locations, and carved a good story. The narrator wasn’t great…soporific tone and pauses in the wrong places. I laughed at his calling the Congregational Church the “Congressional church.” Maybe accurate…. I would like to hear more in this series, preferably with a different narrator.

I was looking for a mystery set in Maine. It was instead a predictable G rated romance. Very disappointing.

The story was sweet, but the narration was awful. The AI voice was a lot like Siri on my phone. The price doesn’t make up for the narration. I’d rather pay more for a human

Historia
Newlywed Chief of Police Kate Burkholder is awakened by an urgent midnight call summoning her to a suspicious fire in the woods. When she arrives at the scene, she discovers a charred body. According to the coroner, the deceased, an Amish man named Milan Swanz, was chained to a stake and burned alive. It is an appalling and eerily symbolic crime against an upstanding husband and father.

The storyline, for this book was amazingly well researched, and the characters very real. The plot kept me enjoying each twist and turn. Great portrayal of women in medicine in the late 19th century.

This story grabbed me in the first 10 minutes. His portrayal of another world was fantasy cloaked in reality. The people were believable, but there was a cautionary tale buried in the story. I’d highly recommend it!
