I loved this book
Revisado: 11-13-24
One of the best books I have ever read. They story was engrossing and the details about the characters Paris, Italy and Marseille were excellent. I live in Paris and loved stopping by the addresses of the story just to see the neighborhoods. I alsot made a trip to Marseille and visited the Chateau d'If and it really brought alive Dumas' description. A must for all Monte Cristo fans. After all these years, the story has aged incredibly well.
The language was beautiful and I actually learned some new vocabulary to boot; I never knew the use of the word "countenance" to mean face.
One little nit was that the accents of the bad guys all seemed to be cockney, not French. I realize the narrator was English and there were so many characters, but the bad guys with English accents? Amusing.

Historia
What happens when the President of the United States governs one Tweet at a time? When the elected leader of the free world may not have a firm grasp on the names of government agencies, much less an understanding of their intricate inner-workings? In the days following the 2016 inauguration, government personnel searched for answers that didn’t exist, while White House staff scoured halls for employees who would never be appointed.

Great topic, weak ending
Revisado: 03-24-19
I was really into this book and loved the insights of the author. I felt that he got away from the topic with the details of tornadoes and other topics, but that was ok; I still learned a lot. What really bothered me though was that the book seemed to end in the middle of him making a great point about NOAA being headed up by the owner of AccuWeather. There was no summary, conclusion or closing comments that link together the premise of the book. The authors take on the Trump administration in light of the stories he told about the 3 agencies would have been great to hear. In fact I seriously thought that perhaps the last chapter did not download until I heard the closing "Audible hopes you enjoyed this book."

There is growing evidence that Trump has spent decades cultivating ties to corrupt Russians and the post-Soviet state. In Trump/Russia: A Definitive History, Seth Hettena chronicles the many years Trump has spent wooing Russian money and power. From the collapse of his casino empire - which left Trump desperate for cash - and his first contacts with Russian deal makers and financiers, on up to the White House, Hettena reveals the myriad of shady people, convoluted dealings, and strange events that suggest how indebted to Russia our 45th president might be.

Lots of interesting information
Revisado: 12-28-18
I was fascinated by this topic and really wanted to love the book. I did enjoy it but have a few comments:
Trump is the main reason for reading this and there was too much time spent on the deep background of the other characters. I would have appreciated more on Trump's interaction with these people.
The book's last 3 hours were the best and detailed the Steele Dossier, Mueller and other important events. However the book just seemed to end. It provided a great deal of information and seemed to leave it up the the reader to connect the dots. I would have liked some sort of concluding chapter. The author clearly had done his homework and I would have welcomed more of his opinion on Trump and Russia.

Historia
With dazzling wit and astonishing insight, Bill Bryson - the acclaimed author of The Lost Continent - brilliantly explores the remarkable history, eccentricities, resilience, and sheer fun of the English language. From the first descent of the larynx into the throat (why you can talk but your dog can't) to the fine lost art of swearing, Bryson tells the fascinating, often uproarious story of an inadequate, second-rate tongue of peasants that developed into one of the world's largest growth industries.

Audio version much better than written version
Revisado: 01-19-16
This was an exceptionally detailed and fascinating history of the English language. Since much of the subject was about pronunciation it was quite helpful to listen to it rather than read it. The narrator did an incredible job pronouncing words that are either foreign or have not been spoken for centuries. He actually sounded like Bryson!
I noted that it was actually written in 1990 and with the development of the internet I wondered if Mr. Byrson would give us an updated version. So much has changed in the past 25 years.

Historia
For more than a decade, golf was dominated by one galvanizing figure: Eldrick "Tiger" Woods. But as his star has fallen, a new, ambitious generation has stepped up to claim the crown. Once the domain of veterans, golf saw a youth revolution in 2014. In Slaying the Tiger, Shane Ryan introduces us to the volatile, colorful crop of heirs apparent who are storming the barricades of this traditionally old-fashioned sport.

Good stories but reader was a distraction
Revisado: 11-18-15
I liked the inside story on the golfers and the events. However the readers pronunciation of some of the names was so bad or inconsistent that it really was a distraction. Is it Rory or Roy? Ma-deen-uh or Ma-die-na? Whatever you choose, at least be consistent.
After so much insight about the players, I was hoping for some analysis or synthesis about what makes golfers they way they are. The author must have some opinions of his own but he stopped short. It would have been good to hear them.

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Wonderful deep dive into life in the early 60s
Revisado: 12-14-11
I thouroughly enjoyed this book. It was my first Stephen King and I just loved the quality of the writing, the narration (great diversity in accents and voices) and the story. I was taken in from the first page and was really sorry to see it end. I was touched by some of the memories from the period that this book triggered, from the details of the hair tonic to the twist-o-flex watch. I had them both!
The approach to time travel was very clever and I particularly enjoyed the way it was used to achieve a "do overr" when plans did not go right the first time. I heard that it is being made into a movie and can't wait to see it. No doubt they are aiming for the 50th anniversay of the assination.

It was the splendor and the scandal of the age. In 1506, the ferociously ambitious Renaissance Pope Julius II tore down the most sacred shrine in Europe, the millennium-old St. Peter's Basilica built by the Emperor Constantine over the apostle's grave, to build a better basilica.

Revisado: 09-01-11
I agree with the other reviewers, a great story with wonderful insight. Well researched. The reader's poor pronunciation of so many words was such a distraction. She had a very pleasant voice but no concept how to pronounce so many Italian names, not to mention several English words too.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....
