Very Bad Narrator
Revisado: 01-22-25
The narrator almost had me shutting the book off before I'd even gotten though the first page. She does this really irritating sharp intake of breath at the end of most sentences. I think it's meant to be breathy and sexy, but it wasn't; it was nails on a chalkboard. Also, I read along with a hard copy whenever I listen to an audiobook. I absorb the story better. The narrator needed to edit. There were so many things said that 1. didn't really make sense and 2. weren't actually in the book. For example narrator said, "holding a glass of drink," instead of the book saying "holding a glass of ______." Some of it just felt sloppy. Lastly, some of the smutty scenes left me feeling exceedingly dirty. Not because of the authors writing, but because of the narrators interpretation. She was moaning and making other sexual noises as she read these scenes and it left me feeling like I'd just watched a dirty movie. The narrator butchered this experience.

Historia
The city of San Siroco is sinking. The basement of Dr. Tamsin Rivers, the arrogant, selfish head of the research team assigned to find the source of the subsidence, is sinking faster. As Tamsin grows obsessed with the distorting dimensions of the room at the bottom of the stairs, she finds a door that didn’t exist before—and one night, it opens to reveal an exact physical copy of her. This doppelgänger is sweet and biddable where Tamsin is calculating and cruel. It appears fully, terribly human, passing every test Tamsin can devise.

Mind-Numbingly Slow
Revisado: 01-21-25
I understand what the author was trying to do, but it did not work. The thrill and suspense the description promised is severely lacking. The narrator did not help. Her voice is breathy and lacks inflection and emotion. She made a slow story even slower.

Historia
Since his wife died, Ralph Roberts has been having trouble sleeping. Each night he wakes up a bit earlier until he's barely sleeping at all. During his late-night walks, he observes some strange things going on in Derry, Maine. He sees colored ribbons streaming from people's heads, two strange little men wandering around town after dark, and more. He begins to suspect that these visions are something more than hallucinations brought on by lack of sleep.

Good Book, Bad Sound Affects.
Revisado: 06-14-23
The book is good. The narrator did a great job. The reason for two stars instead of more is the sound affects they added. They're completely unnecessary and ill placed. Often times the affects are louder than the narrator and you lose the story line. If the affects were used like they were in radio theatre productions this review would be different. More stars would absolutely be given if the sound affects were removed or were more subtle to accentuated the story.
