Historia
Isaac is at a crossroads in his young life. Growing up in Missouri, the son of a caustic, hard-driving father, he was conditioned to suppress his artistic pursuits and physical desires, notions that didn’t align with a traditional view of masculinity. But now, in late ’80s Chicago, Isaac has finally carved out a life of his own. He is sensitive and tenderhearted and has built up the courage to seek out a community. Yet just as he begins to embrace who he is, two social catalysts—the AIDS crisis and Rodney King’s attack—collectively extinguish his hard-earned joy.

Phenomenal work! Dr. Black is always on point. I read the books in sequence and enjoyed them both. But I can understand why Dr. Black says that they can be read in reverse order.

Amazing work!
Revisado: 01-30-25
So visual, so iconic. This books takes me back to the pain I saw in my father, but could never understand. Him, a poor boy from Arkansas, that grew up under the unloving hand of a father that provided a good life. I think of my dad making a life for himself and us on the Southside of Chicago. Loving us all the best way that he knew how. Great read.

Historia
How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

Historia
Our current definition of “productivity” is broken. It pushes us to treat busyness as a proxy for useful effort, leading to impossibly lengthy task lists and ceaseless meetings. We’re overwhelmed by all we have to do and on the edge of burnout, left to decide between giving into soul-sapping hustle culture or rejecting ambition altogether. But are these really our only choices?

Great Story
Revisado: 06-13-22
Wonderful work. The author took you to Harlem in a way that wasn’t expected. This story was bigger than Fritz. Meaning it emphasized the family and environment that created him. It was more about a family struggling trying to make it. The highs and lows Almost like two books in one. Not what I was expecting but honestly not mad at it!!!!
