the content that is covered is good and will researched, but I feel like a lot was neglected in this course. for example, there was a brief mention of training your self control, but it was in passing. a lot of material that could have been useful related to that. overall worth listening to but leaves a lot on the table.

generally good content, but no thematic structure. the book just lists out the relevant phenomenon in each chapter. so in chapter on biases, content essentially goes like this: here is bias number one... another bias is this... and another bias is this... and another bias is this. it was the same for all chapters pretty much. it would be better if there was an underlying tree trunk concept that the points could branch out of, otherwise hard to remember our tie together coherently.

a noble mission and a great cause, but a lot of storytelling without much systematic diagnosis and theory. would be better to understand why and how this happens psychologically rather than just explain the process in a meandering way. I wish the book was better. but not a lot of meat for a long book. basically cults drag you in slowly, target vulnerable people, use the bite model, and then getting someone out requires sympathy and gentle questioning. was wanting something more rigorous. many of the cited psychological studies have been challenged in recent years as well. ah well. my search continues.

Only one complaint for this series. It was too short! Such a rich topic and so much to explore.

Meh, good beginning trails into weak logic

The beginning of this book was wonderful, really diving into an exploration of inefficiencies in workplace hiring and responsibilities in (and outside) of the private sector. It was a little exaggerated and cynical, but still comprised of insightful points. Unfortunately, about halfway through this devolved into insecure rants on various topics that were so weakly thought out they were painful to listen to, not fleshed out with any level of economic sophistication whatsoever. Rather they took the form of, "Let me argue against the frailest argument from the other point of view and ignore the actual holes in my thinking." This will leave any serious reader unsatisfied. When combined with the authors rather pretentious literary form, it ends up being more obnoxious than enjoyable. I recommend you just read the article he wrote instead and save yourself some pain.

It is a rare read that pulls together most of the aspects of life into a single theory, and even rarer that a read that does so as successfully as The Molecule of More. Of all the books I've read about psychology, habit change, neuroscience, politics, and even business and business leadership, all seem to be at least partially explained by this book. By contributing an underlying theory to much of what we see around us, this book also helps to distinguish between garbage advice and good advice, helps to clarify why some solutions work for one person but not another, and helps us better understand those who's lives and decisions seem so different from ours. As a person with ADHD (medicated from a young age) and a history of floundering in personal relationships, I found this book especially illuminating. It will undoubtedly change my life.

I will note that overall the writing is not impressive, but this does little to diminish the value of the book. I will re-listen to this again with a notebook and pen in hand. I strongly recommend.

This book stands pretty much on the premise alone. It's a fun idea, a megalodon on the loose, and the scientific details are pretty interesting in a lot of places, but by golly, the character writing in The Meg is some of the worst I've ever come across. Painful to get through.

Are you looking for clarity in your life? In an era in which purpose and meaning are becoming evermore clouded by 140-character philosophies and pop-culture politics, the impressively well-versed Peterson taps for the reader a wellspring of insight into human behavior, morality, duty, and more, wonderfully drawing together ideas of many of the greatest minds and texts in history with modern scientific findings and his own experiences and distilling them into a single clear-cut, uplifting, and practicable worldview. There is little, if any, in this book that has not been deeply thought through. Feel free to disagree with Peterson's conclusions, but you will undoubtedly be forced to take a critical look at how you are living your life and hopefully be inspired to improve it, as I most certainly was. It is difficult to listen to this audiobook and not draw from it to become a better person. I highly recommend.

When I reached the end of this book, the point of Sr's death, I felt as though I lost a good friend. Ron Chernow is able to bring the characters so well to life. This work is unbiased, thorough, and very readable.

I also couldn't have hoped for a better narrator than Grove Gardner. His voice is somehow perfect in genre, and for an over 30 hr book I was kept well entertained.

On its own, Rockefeller's story is inspiring and informative of the times, which Rockefeller played a large role in shaping. He is surely one of the most interesting and influential characters in recent history.

I highly recommend this audiobook.

Succinct millennia of evolution in strategy

This is a very articulate book summarize the growth of strategy over the course of a full millennia, from biblical times all the way to psychology and neuroscience today. It is a fantastic work in its comprehensiveness. One of the natural difficulties of a book like this is delving into the content deeply enough to really grasp the nuance of each character. Freedman was skilled at this. One fault is that the exploration of tangential topics requires of you an effort to maintain the connection back to strategy in your head, especially on audio.

Murray is a good reader with a natural credibility to his voice. I listen at 1.5x to listen at normal talking speed and at that page he sounds like a knowledgeable, likable friend.

I recommend this book. It is listenable and will expose you to the big players and their fundamental positions.

A couple of quick comments:

1. With a book this long, I recommend mapping out the primary characters and their positions afterwards to get a good grasp of the development and interplay and to help make sense of the vast amount of information.

2. The language is dense; for an audiobook this makes it tough to listen fluidly without rewinding on many occasions. I didn't find this to be too problematic however. I would keep in mind though that it might contribute to a listen 10% longer than the actual length of the audiobook.
