We are all ONE

Redundant
Revisado: 04-03-24
It’s the first 4 chapters written over and over, it’s like you told an AI to write a 400 page book based on a few pages.
I don’t think she’s wrong though, learning all the subtle ways of letting go of that pull to want to win all your little conflicts can lead to amazing things. Kind of shocking she didn’t have any other advice than that.

Historia
In this exciting true adventure mixed with amazing scientific study, a young, exuberant explorer and geoscientist journeys deep into the Amazon - where rivers boil and legends come to life. When Andrés Ruzo was just a small boy in Peru, his grandfather told him the story of a mysterious legend: There is a river, deep in the Amazon, that boils as if a fire burns below it. Twelve years later, Ruzo - now a geoscientist - hears his aunt mention that she herself had visited this strange river....

Thought I’d learn some cool geological information about an unusual thermal phenomenon, but also went on a wild ride of wise old shaman that’s in communion with the plants, trees, people and probably the galaxy. Still left very curious about this spectacular feature of our planet, hope we learn more. My uneducated money is on an ancient meteor strike.

My favorite part was when they painstakingly avoided mentioning what the legal troubles keeping him up at night were. So I google it and find that he ran a collections service that was in trouble for harassing people.

Historia
This classic memoir by the remarkable French explorer and Buddhist Alexandra David-Néel is the one of the greatest Buddhist travelogues of the 20th century. She was the first European woman to meet the Dalai Lama (in the 1920s) and in 1924 became the first to enter the forbidden Tibetan capital, Lhasa. She had already spent a decade travelling through China and Sikkim, India; lived and meditated in a cave on the Tibetan border; and everywhere learned about Buddhism from hermits, mystics and bandits.

Technically amazing.
Revisado: 02-27-23
Usually I roll my eyes reading anything about Tibetan Buddhism written by westerners before 21st century. However, this was a refreshing change. Alexandra knew her shit well enough to know what she didn’t know and was intellectually insatiable to learn as much as she could. I was floored by how good the information on Tibetan Buddhism is. We’re very lucky to have such an amazingly adventurous scholar manage to explore Tibet before the Chinese invasion, and give such a beautiful snapshot of Tibet Buddhism in its own time and place.

Historia
Jonas kills people...with his mind. He reaches out, focuses for a moment, and feels a snap of pain between his eyes. Then his target falls over dead: a hole in the center of their brains. The cause of death is unknown to all aside from Jonas, and his lone companion, Bubbles, a sarcastic AI with aspirations to be more human, or a serial killer. One of the two. Maybe both. Jonas calls his ability...mind bullet.

Light on character building
Revisado: 12-10-21
Just really didn’t care what happened to anybody in the story. *Spoiler ahead* except for an A.I. introduced towards the end, who was killed off as she was just becoming interesting. Funny that the only character starting to show any kind of personal growth was immediately and unceremoniously written out of the story.

Very useful, but it is a lot of various therapy session retellings. If that's your thing, you’ll dig this book a lot. Wish it spent a little more time on technique or pointing out.
Happy I listened.

Historia
For over 800 years, Tibetan Buddhists have used lojong (literally, "mind training") to transform difficulties into insights, and conflict into genuine communication. Lojong practice uses a special meditation technique and 59 written maxims - a treasury of practical wisdom that inspires everyday awareness. Awakening Compassion is the first audio retreat on the practice of lojong taught by Pema Chödrön, the American-born Tibetan Buddhist nun and best-selling author.

A funny teaching on Tonglen. If you don't know what Tonglen is, learn. It will change your life (no guarantee). This is a great source to learn Tonglen. If you don't want to spend the money on this particular book, because you aren't sure what Tonglen is. Research it, and then come back and get this book. Or don't. Also check out Pema Chodrons book on Audible.com called Good Medicine.

Historia
General interest in Buddhism has never been higher. The story and teachings of a man who lived 2,500 years ago have a special resonance for us today, perhaps because he taught a way of life that was not based on belief in a creator god but rather on personal experience. "Test my words for yourself," he said. But what lies behind those distinctive images of the Buddha, seated with unshakeable poise, with eyes half-closed and a slight smile? Jinananda, a Western-born Buddhist, divides the subject into the Three Jewels....

I've got a lot of audible books on Buddhism. So far this has been my favorite one, and have listened to it numerous times. Lot's of information and told in a very easy way to listen to. The voice they used for Gotama Buddha is now burned into my brain as the voice of Gotama Buddha.
Check it out, it's totally worth it.
