Historia
The Upanishads are often considered the most important literature from ancient India. Yet many academic translators fail to capture the work's philosophical and spiritual subtlety, while others convey its poetry at the cost of literal meaning. This new translation by Vernon Katz and Thomas Egenes fills the need for an Upanishads that is clear, simple, and insightful - yet remains faithful to the original Sanskrit.

A wonderful audio presentation of the Upanishads.
Revisado: 12-02-18
While this publication of the Upanishads is a little dated (you'll notice in the Introduction) it is the most beautifully presented audio version of an English translation of these texts that I have ever experienced. There are more current translations that incorporate recent interpretations of certain important words and phrases translated from the Sanskrit. This translation, I feel, really captures some of the poetic essence that theses verses were meant to convey in the ancient oral tradition. I listen to this like music. This is a wonderful introduction to late Vedic philosophy and tradition. If you've never read the Upanishads, this is an excellent place to start. Regardless, first time or 101st time, you're Atman will thank you.

A funny and entertaining tribute to Bob Newhart.
Revisado: 12-02-18
This was a funny and entertaining tribute to Bob Newhart. A look behind the scenes from the life of someone in the standup/comedy/entertainment business for over 60 years. The choice of guest interviewers was excellent and lends a link between older and younger perspectives on Newhart's career and influence in the comedy business. No matter your age, Bob Newhart seems like he's always been there on TV, entertaining you without looking like he's trying. This set of interviews will convince you that Bob is still here and is as funny as ever. Thank you Audible. Nice job!

Historia
Of all the peoples of the ancient Near East, the Phoenicians are among the most recognizable but also perhaps the least understood. The Phoenicians never built an empire like the Egyptians and Assyrians; in fact, the Phoenicians never created a unified Phoenician state. Instead, they existed as independent city-state kingdoms scattered throughout the Mediterranean region.

Audio sounds like man reading in a bathtub.

Audio sounds like man reading in a bathtub.
Revisado: 12-02-18
The narration on this is bad. The acoustics are terrible and make for a very echoey, tinny, hard to understand all the words experience. (Yes, I used my best device and headphones.) Sounds very much like a man sitting in the bathtub reading to you. On top of that, narrator seems inexperienced and over-pronounced syllables making for a lot of strange pronunciations and even more hissing and reverberation coming from the bathtub. Took me three tries to understand that the narrator was saying Herodotus. The actual information provided, while essentially good, is just not sufficient to render it useful. Given that the audio and narration are bad and the information provided is too sketchy and truncated, I would not recommend this audio book and would even go so far as to say that this is below the standards which I have come to assume from Audible.
