After years of imprisonment and solitary confinement, enduring inhumane torture, Richard Wurmbrand emerges with a powerful testimony of courageous faith. Even today, believers are suffering and dying for Christ, yet their faith will not falter under the most unthinkable persecutions. In this stirring account, Wurmbrand (founder of The Voice of the Martyrs) encourages us to remember those in chains and equips us to help our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ around the world.

Will believers in Christ in the US join these?
Revisado: 07-06-23
Reading of the experiences of Richard Wurmbrand and others in Communist countries is so humbling. They shared the love of God through His Son, Jesus, knowing informants, neighbors, and "friends" could turn them in. Nothing was more important than sharing the Good News that Jesus died and rose again, forgiving our sins and giving us the gift of eternal life.
You will never be the same after reading about the believers in the underground churches.

A true story of faith in Germany during the Cold W
Revisado: 11-02-22
This historical fiction takes place in Germany during the Cold War. Heather Moore corresponded with the man whose story she wrote. He was drafted and sent to Europe. His faith in God Influenced how he served his country, how he viewed what happened to him, and how he treated others.
I was not as familiar with the Cold War since I was a second grader while it was beginning. There are a lot of historical fiction books about WW II, but this is the first one I have read about the early 60's.
It is so tragic to see, again, what happens when a leader decides to take control of a group of people and give them no choice in where or how they will live. It was tragic to read of a city torn in half and families torn apart.
There are always people who will risk their lives to help save others. This was a very moving story, especially knowing these things really happened. It was very special having the two voices narrate the story. Thanks Heather Moore

Wonderful book about the Messiah!
Revisado: 07-13-21
Puts some thoughts behind the script of the free TV series by the same name. You have to watch the 8 episodes of Season 1 to get a real lifelike view of what it might have been like when Jesus chose His disciples. They jump off the page!
They don't claim to be the Bible. It is TV about what might have happened. They have advisors making sure nothing is said or done against Biblical truths.
Get the free app and give it a fair try. Please. I think you will love it.

Revisado: 02-08-20
We listened to the series again, after having listened to them years ago. Enjoyed them all over again. Adventure without blood and guts, or sex. Romance and humor made them a great read, while learning some post WWII history in Afica and Europe.

Historia
For 30 years, Lynn Wilder, once a tenured faculty member at Brigham Young University, and her family lived in, loved, and promoted the Mormon Church. Then, their son Micah, serving his Mormon mission in Florida, had a revelation: God knew him personally. God loved him. And the Mormon Church did not offer the true gospel. As Lynn tells her story of abandoning the deception of Mormonism to receive God's grace, she gives a rare look into Mormon culture, what it means to grow up Mormon, and why the contrasts between Mormonism and Christianity make all the difference in the world.

Historia
During his more than 30 years as a vascular surgeon, Richard Furman literally held clogged arteries and diseased hearts in his hands and wondered why the person lying on the table hadn't been more careful. Heart disease is the number one killer of men and women in America, and in most cases it is completely preventable. So why are we slowly destroying our bodies and killing ourselves? And what can we do to turn it around?

Simple steps, life-changing results, will I do it?
Revisado: 08-06-18
The author doesn't suggest anything he hasn't been doing all his adult life. If you make 5 or 7 changes to your eating & activity, you can be approximately 7 years younger than your age. You can avoid diabetes, heart issues, damage to joints, strokes, and very likely, Alzheimer's disease. The doctor gives lots of evidence from medical journals, scientifically done studies, and a life-time of patient experiences from his practice as a physician & surgeon.
He knows these changes can be hard. All of them are best, but he says even a few will help your quality of life & health.

Now we know what made Ingeborg who she is, an why.
Revisado: 04-06-14
Would you consider the audio edition of An Untamed Heart to be better than the print version?
Rachel Botchan is a good narrator, but I really missed hearing the story with the accent. If that was a deal breaker for you, you might want to read it in print.
What other book might you compare An Untamed Heart to and why?
My husband & I love the characters Lauraine Snelling creates. The families love and care for and about each other. They work hard and trust God for the rest. The characters are real people. They don't "sound" like made-up people. You might run into them tomorrow at work or on your errands. They might be your friends or neighbors. If not, you want them to be so.
He even enjoys the romance, because it's not fake or mushy. It's part of the life of the characters. We were so disappointed the next book isn't on audio yet. I hope it won't be long. We NEED to know what happens! Are you listening Audible?
Have you listened to any of Rachel Botchan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No. She's good.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
We chuckled in numerous places. I didn't cry with Ingeborg, but felt so badly for her. Our reaction was that we didn't want to stop listening and go to sleep so we could go to work the next morning!
Any additional comments?
This is nothing against Rachel Botchan's ability as a narrator, but being so used to listening to the stories with Ingeborg, and then not having that wonderful accent, it's just not the same, and I hope the next one includes the Norwegian accent.

A German Resistance worker escapes to Arizona WWII
Revisado: 03-04-14
What made the experience of listening to Copper Star the most enjoyable?
It was interesting to have the main character be someone who had worked with Dietrich Bonhoeffer in the German Resistance. All of the characters were very interesting people. A heartbroken pastor and deaf little boy make it very hard for Louisa to return to Berlin.
I learned a lot. I really enjoyed the book and can't wait for Audible to get Book 2, Copper Fire ready for us to listen to.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Copper Star?
There was a lot of mystery & suspense, with a surprise at the end.
What about Susan Hegarty’s performance did you like?
I thought the narrator did a good job of the accents.

Narrator made it almost impossible to understand
Revisado: 01-16-14
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
The book itself was very enjoyable. Just don't listen to it. Buy the book. Doesn't anyone preview a narrator to see if they can be understood? I almost stopped listening within the first few minutes. I couldn't understand what was being said. It was even worse when the narrator used a southern accent for a couple of the characters. I turned up the volume and hit rewind a number of times to hear what had been said. I really wanted to hear the story, so I endured it to the end.
What did you like best about this story?
The setting was interesting, taking place on an island in the Outer Banks of Florida. The plot and characters were engaging. You learned about a character through the letters she wrote to God. The book had a number of really good messages. I enjoyed the book, in spite of the narration.
Would you be willing to try another one of Xe Sands’s performances?
NO
Could you see The Prayer Box being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
It would be an interesting movie.
Any additional comments?
The book showed the comparison of a controlling person in relationships, and normal relationships. It showed the kinds of hurts women have in their lives that make them the target of controlling abusers. Abusers know the type of women that will allow the control in the relationship, instead of walking away immediately. Great job, Lisa.
