Perfect combination of story & narration

I loved the brotherhood and friendship between Kit & the others, and his relationship with Sophie. The Alex Wyndham narration is spot on for the characters.

I really enjoyed this narration and the 3 points of view. Juliet Marillier’s books always have a way of drawing you in and the stories are so good. I love the mix of hero and legend and The Uncanny. Excited to see what comes next.

Historia
The last thing Amelia Kennington wants is to participate in the London Season. But the daughter of a duke is not afforded such opinions. She must put forth a subdued facade, but beneath it is a well-hidden fire that surfaces only when provoked—such as when an overly familiar gentleman startles her and she falls into the Serpentine.

Too long, conflict was ‘no communication’ that made them both stupid, and went on too long, but sweet story.

Robin Brannon was a normal wife, mom, and antique shop owner until a brush with death turned her day-to-day life upside down. Now, she and her two best friends are seeing things that belong in a fantasy novel. Ghosts. Visions. Omens of doom. Nothing that belongs in the peaceful mountain town they call home. Added to that, Robin's marriage is on the rocks, her grandmother's health is failing, her mother is driving away the customers at her shop, her teenage daughter refuses to get her driver's license, and her left knee aches every darn morning.

Historia
Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.

So Boring...
Revisado: 09-18-15
What would have made The Golem and the Jinni better?
A lot more story, and less depth of character.
What was most disappointing about Helene Wecker’s story?
It was all very interesting, but I was still waiting for a story 4.5 hours into the book. Pace was extremely slow.
What three words best describe George Guidall’s voice?
Deep, articulate, inflected
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Golem and the Jinni?
Since I quit the book 1/4 of the way in, I don't know what was supposed to happen with the story, or if there even was one, but I would have re-worked all that beginning into something quicker & cut to the action.
Any additional comments?
I'm disappointed because it has rave reviews for the most part, and I really tried to like it, but the slow pace left me feeling like I was chewing glass.
