Historia
By following the struggle for survival of one small-town hospital, and the patients who walk, or are carried, through its doors, The Hospital takes listeners into the world of the American medical industry in a way no audiobook has done before. Americans are dying sooner, and living in poorer health. Alexander argues that no plan will solve America’s health crisis until the deeper causes of that crisis are addressed.

Blindly Political
Revisado: 02-17-24
The story of the small hospital, the patients and the plight of the citizens in this part of Ohio was most interesting but the author’s tunnel vision political opinions were unbearable. He blames one party for every ill, which is not credible or possible. The author took the lieutenant governor of Texas totally out of context. Dan Patrick included himself when he said that the country could not be financially destroyed for the sake of older people. That young people, who few were killed by Covid, needed to carry on with their lives and keep the country open and going. He wept for his children and grandchildren.
He has turned out to be absolutely correct.
No one party can cause such harm to the American people, like it takes both parties and a million bureaucrats.

Historia
Some people's lives are entirely their own creations. James Rebanks' isn't. He's the first son of a shepherd who was the first son of a shepherd himself; his family have lived and worked in the Lake District of Northern England for generations, further back than recorded history. It's a part of the world known mainly for its romantic descriptions by Wordsworth and the much-loved illustrated children's books of Beatrix Potter. But James' world is quite different. His way of life is ordered by the seasons and the work they demand.

Historia
Beginning with opium, the “joy plant,” which has been used for 10,000 years, Thomas Hager tells a captivating story of medicine. His subjects include the largely forgotten female pioneer who introduced smallpox inoculation to Britain, the infamous knockout drops, the first antibiotic, which saved countless lives, the first antipsychotic, which helped empty public mental hospitals, Viagra, statins, and the new frontier of monoclonal antibodies. This is a deep, wide-ranging, and wildly entertaining book.

Historia
These wide-ranging essays - on many individual political, economic, cultural, and legal issues - have as a recurring, underlying theme the decline of the values and institutions that have sustained and advanced American society for more than two centuries. This decline has been more than erosion. It has, in many cases, been a deliberate dismantling of American values and institutions by people convinced that their superior wisdom and virtue must override both the traditions of the country and the will of the people.

Historia
Among the most consistent and aggressive criticisms of Donald Trump is that he is a threat to American democracy - a human wrecking ball demolishing our most basic values and institutions. Resistance (at All Costs) makes the opposite case - that it is Trump's critics, in their zeal to oppose the president, who are undermining our foundations.

Informative as to the processes of developing a new drug, fascinating because of the patient experiences and scary because bacteria can hurt us so badly. I appreciate people like the author who strive to find answers.

When Jody sees her spotted fawn in the brush, he convinces his father they should bring the fawn home. Thus begins a year when deer and boy are never far from each other.
