This book tackles things on both large and small scales. One moment you're dealing with mafia-esque clan tensions that impact a nation's people and economy, the next you're experiencing the nuance of an individual's personal struggles. If I were to be critical a few of the smaller details could probably have been cut to streamline and smooth out the story, but it balanced many moving pieces very well

The narration wasn't my favorite though. The narrator has a good voice, but I didn't enjoy how they portrayed the characters. Each character had a slightly different voice, but it was very homogonous. I would have preferred either fully commiting to the different voices to make them more distinct, or simply reading in their normal voice the whole time.

Delightfully creative but has missed potential

This one is hard to put into words. The world, magic system (for lack of a better term), and descriptions were all delightful. I had many moments where I got lost in the imagery. I finished the book feeling slightly unfulfilled though. The world Terry Pratchett created held so much potential, but at the end of the story... not much had really changed. The main character was now a bit more mature, and that's about it.

Exciting, entertaining, and well written

The Dresden Files has quickly become one of my favorite series. The writing is fantastic, and the pace is perfect. I love the magic system Jim Butcher has created for his world.

Top tier story, characters, writing, and narration

This was one of my top favorite reads. I love the word, the characters, and the writing. Jim Butcher's writing style and way of describing things is exceptional. Being a slightly shorter novel, the story keeps the gas pedal pushed down, but it never feels rushed. I would highly recommend the Dresden Files!

Creative world and atmosphere, but scattered story

The world and environment Wiliam Gibson created is iconic for a reason. The settings and creativity were delightful. It fell short for me in terms of character development and story fluidity. Several character's motivations weren't very clear so the drive for what they did felt hollow. The story itself also felt like a skipping record. There were lots of unexplained jumps, or highly abridged narration, that made things hard to follow.

Solid writing but slightly slow and repetitive

The story was quite engaging, and the characters had great growth and flaws that played out well throughout the book. The story beats started getting a bit repetitive though. Being told "things are bleak and crappy" ten+ different ways got a bit old. If you don't mind a bit of repetition, there is a great story to be read.

Delightfully Creative with Exceptional Narration

An absolutely fantastic read. I found it very creative and witty. It had an element of an omniscient narrator that added delightful quips which I enjoyed. Stephen Fry gave one of the best audiobook performances I've heard!

Excellent story, decent writing

The story and characters engaged me well. I was excited to turn it back on each car ride in the morning. While the story was great, the actual writing had weak points here and there. Most notably the similes were not very good and there were several overused cliches - especially at the start of the book. Get over that hump and you'll enjoy the rest :)

Excellent story but had random voice actor changes

The story and writing as absolutely top notch. I like sci-fi and fantasy and it was excellent. My only point of grief was that a cast of voice actors was sometimes used, and other times it was the narrator doing their voices. In a few places the swap was very abrupt, and I was confused if it was the same character or not.
