Historia
There’s a reason the History Channel has produced hundreds of documentaries about Hitler but only a few about Dwight D. Eisenhower. Bad guys (and gals) are eternally fascinating. Behind the Bastards dives in past the Cliffs Notes of the worst humans in history and exposes the bizarre realities of their lives. Listeners will learn about the young adult novels that helped Hitler form his monstrous ideology, the founder of Blackwater’s insane quest to build his own Air Force, the bizarre lives of the sons and daughters of dictators and Saddam Hussein’s side career as a trashy romance ...

Historia
Centuries before the events of A Game of Thrones, House Targaryen - the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria - took up residence on Dragonstone. Fire & Blood begins their tale with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and goes on to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold that iconic seat, all the way up to the civil war that nearly tore their dynasty apart.

Very good.
Revisado: 11-13-22
I was very entertained, but I am a huge fan of all things out of the Game of Thrones universe. I have all the books and seasons of anything GoT related so it's pretty impossible for me to not be entertained. highly recommend. Great performance by the narrator also.

Norman Davies captures it all - the rise and fall of Rome, the sweeping invasions of Alaric and Atilla, the Norman Conquests, the Papal struggles for power, the Renaissance and the Reformation, the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars, Europe's rise to become the powerhouse of the world, and its eclipse in our own century, following two devastating World Wars.

Super good and long!
Revisado: 10-28-22
An unbelievably entertaining history lesson on Europe told by someone who can convincingly recite just about every European language flawlessly. I have a background in German, so that's the only one I know about for sure, but wow. The author wrote a great book and then they found probably the best narrator they could. Also this book is full of tidbits of knowledge that I hope I will remember for a long time. There were at least 50 times while listening I thought "wow, that is so freaking interesting; I had no idea. I hope I don't forget that".

Historia
It is 1917, in that sliver of borderland that divides Georgia from Alabama. Dispossessed farmer Pearl Jewett ekes out a hardscrabble existence with his three young sons: Cane (the eldest, handsome, intelligent); Cob (short, heavyset, a bit slow); and Chimney (the youngest, thin, ill-tempered). Several hundred miles away in Southern Ohio, a farmer by the name of Ellsworth Fiddler lives with his son, Eddie, and his wife, Eula.

Very, very entertaining
Revisado: 10-16-22
I listened to this because I liked the movie adapted from his other book 'The Devil all the Time' and definitely was not disappointed. it's cliche to say in these reviews at this point, but I didn't want this to end. I also wished he had more books/stories published. Also, the narrator did a great job with the voices. I'll undoubtedly be listening to this book more than the twice I've already listened to it.

Historia
Composed in the last years of Roberto Bolaño's life, 2666 was greeted across Europe and Latin America as his highest achievement, surpassing even his previous work in its strangeness, beauty, and scope. Its throng of unforgettable characters includes academics and convicts, an American sportswriter, an elusive German novelist, and a teenage student and her widowed, mentally unstable father. Their lives intersect in the urban sprawl of Santa Teresa - a fictional Juárez - on the U.S.-Mexico border.

Revisado: 10-04-22
I can't say enough good things about this book. I've already ordered a physical copy because I know I'm going to need do read this book more than once. it's very funny, entertaining, and engrossing. What a page turner! The writing is amazing, the different performers are all perfectly suited to their respective section, and I wanted this book to be never-ending. Brilliant!

World War I altered the landscape of the modern world in every conceivable arena. Millions died; empires collapsed; new ideologies and political movements arose; poison gas, warplanes, tanks, submarines, and other technologies appeared. "Total war" emerged as a grim, mature reality. In The Great War, Peter Hart provides a masterful combat history of this global conflict.

I had a great time listening to this book. It doesn't just focus on the Western Front in WwI; it covers most areas of the war. A very good listen. I'll probably listen to it again at some point.

The first 15 or so episodes on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, cannibalism, and Jim Jones are top-shelf podcasts, but the more recent episodes leave something to be desired.
