Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them. With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success.

worth the hype!
Revisado: 01-30-25
i delayed a lot picking this one up as there so much HYPE around the series. But due to the third book releasing this month I said enough is enough, I have see for myself if this is anything to write home about. And let me tell you: IT.IS. SO.WORTH.IT.
Go in blind if possible; I knew it had dragons and a war college and a MMC to die for. Check, check and *check*.
The dramatized adaptations are glorious and they are worth it a 100%. I have the og audios too but I much preferred this version, not for your first read though.
Just get this and come back to it for your second, third time, hell the nth time you will revisit this. And then you will be one of us: swooning over specific scenes, laughing and crying and of course theorizing about the story!!
Brave the dark fellow cadets. #iykyk

Over the past few years, Brianna Wiest has gained renown for her deeply moving, philosophical writing. This new compilation of her published work features pieces on why you should pursue purpose over passion, embrace negative thinking, see the wisdom in daily routine, and become aware of the cognitive biases that are creating the way you see your life. Some of these pieces have never been seen; others have been read by millions of people around the world. Regardless, each will leave you thinking: This idea changed my life.

classic and steamy enemies to lovers
Revisado: 10-25-24
Do you like enemies to lovers? This has quite a few romance tropes and I liked it!
The banter between the protagonists was cute; the story is also rather explicit. If that is not your thing look elsewhere.
Also don't read this one if you haven't read or plan to read the 1st book in the series. Yes it reads as a standalone but it does contain spoilers from the previous books. Liked the narration overall!

Devastated, Emilia sets out to find her sister's killer and to seek vengeance at any cost - even if it means using dark magic that's been long forbidden. Typical YA enemies to lovers
Revisado: 10-09-24
This was a re-read for me in order to continue with the series as my memory sucks. This is the first book of a trilogy with witches and demons and curses and intrigue. It does read as a typical YA story with some more explicit scenes but nothing to write home about. Emilia, our heroine is investigating her twin sisters murder and encounters the Wicked, princes of the Underworld. Growing up she was warned against them but of course who cares when they are hot and mysterious right?
When this book ends be sure to have the next one lined up!!
The narrator, Marisa Calin is excellent and the audiobook has some sound effects as well which enhance the audio experience!

Her youthful beauty masks the dark truth of her life: she has endured centuries of turmoil and heartache in the wake of her grandfather’s long-ago decision to make her immortal like himself. Now in 1984, Collette finds her life upended by the arrival of a gifted child from a troubled home, the return of a stalking presence from her past, and her own mysteriously growing hunger.

A depressed vampire roams the earth..
Revisado: 12-20-23
The God of Endings is one of the best books I read this year! An exceptional debut that tells the story of Anya, a vampire, who finds her existence a curse and cannot seem to find a reason to do so. A depressed vampire in other words. If you are a fan of gory tales involving these bloodthirsty creatures look elsewhere; this ain't it.
Told in two timelines, Anya through the centuries she lived and Anya in the present, the reader gets to know her and feel her despair and loneliness in her existence. Saskia's narration elevated the story and proves once more that I just cannot pick up a book she narrates and don't like it!
This is an atmospheric story with a protagonist unlike any other I've read...

Gothic indeed
Revisado: 12-20-23
Mexican Gothic is the first Silvia Moreno-Garcia book I read and the one I've heard the most praise for. Such praise is not without reason. Told in a creepy narrative, I thoroughly enjoyed this creepy tale of a girl who is witty and charming and when she goes to check upon her cousin she stumbles onto a family who took everything and sucked everyone around them. The beginning part was very reminiscent of the Yellow Wallpaper, with Noemi having all those weird nightmares, but alas it is a supernatural story after all.
The narration was wonderful and added so much to the experience of the story!

Heartbreaking
Revisado: 12-20-23
A heartbreaking tale of a girl fleeing a war and finding no solace in a new land. The story is endearing as it's told by the perspective of a child that doesn't fully understand what is happening yet gives an honest account due to that fact.

Hugh Grant's performance was really enjoyable! The old classic Christmas tale of Ebenezer Scrooge comes alive yet again! Tim Curry's narration is exceptional of course but Hugh's is different, both hold their own.
Perfect listen for Christmas time!

Historia
The diamonds of Sierra Leone have funded one of the most savage rebel campaigns in modern history. These "blood diamonds" are smuggled out of West Africa and sold to legitimate diamond merchants in London, Antwerp, and New York, often with the complicity of the international diamond industry. Eventually, these very diamonds find their way into the rings and necklaces of brides the world over.

"Diamonds are forever"
Revisado: 12-15-23
Infuriating and powerful. Greg Campbell's expose about blood diamonds was difficult to listen at parts, as the details of the horrific events that unfolded in Sierra Leone will give anyone nightmares.
Clear and concise, this is a book you should read and you most likely never purchase a diamond *ever* again.
