Shocked!
Revisado: 02-16-23
Nora is my absolute favorite author but this book is aweful. It's so cliché and predictable I cannot believe Nora would even sell it to the public. What's worse is I cannot even get my credit back from Audible. I'm not through chapter five and want to puke! Don't waste your money! it's almost as if a child wrote it! Shame on Audible for not returning my credit. Sincerely considering canceling my subscription and sticking with Hoopla! It's free! And can exchange a book if you so wish to do so!

Don't waste your credit on this!
Revisado: 08-24-22
Absolutely the worst narrator I've ever listened to! The story may not have been that bad if a different narrator had read it. I even set the speed to 1.10 and the narrator still spoke as if she was drunk or mentally challenged, I'm not sure which. An absolute waste of a credit!

Historia
For a runaway slave in the 1840s South, life on the run can be just as dangerous as life under a sadistic master. That's what 15-year-old Naomi learns after she escapes the brutal confines of life on an Alabama plantation. Striking out on her own, she leaves behind her beloved Momma and sister, Hazel, and takes refuge in a Georgia brothel run by a freewheeling, gun-toting Jewish madam named Cynthia.

Who's who?
Revisado: 07-06-22
Too hard to follow. Good narrator. Good plot. I got lost too many times. I had to stop reading/listening to it. Sometimes it was too graphic and used vulgarity which I do not like.

Historia
When Detective Casey White discovers the body of a beautiful teenage girl in a white nightgown near the shoreline in North Carolina’s Outer Banks, a familiar fear floods through her. Could this be Hannah, her sweet, blue-eyed daughter snatched from home 14 years ago? But it only takes one look to confirm that the girl with dark bruising around her throat is another family’s tragedy. Putting her own grief aside, Casey digs into unsolved missing child cases in the area. The victim is Cheryl Parry, one of two little girls taken during a family beach vacation nine years ago.

Horrible Narrator
Revisado: 04-12-22
I struggled through this entire book. The only thing that kept me listening was the story. The worst narrator I have heard since joining Audible! I hope Spangler did not use this narrator in the other books because I thought about giving another one a try.

Page turner!
Revisado: 08-25-21
This is a new author for me and I'm addicted already. Narrator is excellent as is all the stories Bohni Turpin reads. I couldn't stop listening to it. The author makes you feel as if you're really there.

Fantastic listen. A catastrophic novel yet incredible preservation by the main character Tangy Mae. Told by an narrator I absolutely love to listen to, Bahni Turpin. She has not told a story that I haven't loved.

Historia
Dave Pelzer was brutally abused as a child by his emotionally unstable, alcoholic mother. She considered him a slave - no longer a boy, but an "it". He was physically and mentally tortured and starved. The outside world knew nothing of the nightmare he experienced behind closed doors, and his father was aware of the abuse but turned to denial and alcohol. The abuse only fueled a determination to survive and become stronger.

what happens to the mom?
Revisado: 06-23-21
I found the story line to be very tragic. My heart was breaking while listening. I didn't like the narratoration. I feel he could've told the story with more feeling and not just read the story. I also felt like the story just ended in mid plot. Whatever happened to the pos mom? the rest of the family? how did he escape? at what age? Etc. So many unanswered questions. Sending David a big, warm, kind, loving virtual hug!

Excellent story line!
Revisado: 05-25-21
I truly enjoyed listening to this book. I found it to be sad because of what happened to Grace but I also found some humor as well. Loved the story line. Narratorated beautifully but a little slow, so I speeded up the play and was perfect!

Three little words
Revisado: 05-21-21
Excellent story line but I didn't care for the way the author narratorated it. For all the horrible things Ashley went through in her life, she sounded more upset towards the end when her and her mom talked then when her and others were being abused by all the fosters. Especially the Mosses. I felt like she read nonchalantly.
