Historia
The audiobook is a compilation of five true stories of adults (four woman and one man) trafficked as children. Each story is preceded by an overview of the type of trafficking the story addresses and followed up by a statement from the survivors themselves. The purpose of the audiobook is to provide insights on how American children are taken captive and often coerced to remain in a lifestyle of commercial sexual exploitation.

Harrowing and gut-wrenching at times, but very very educational. Definitely recommend giving this one a listen.

Excellent story about multiple forms of abuse
Revisado: 06-28-22
This poor girl was physically, psychologically, and sexually abused as a child. No wonder she couldn't recognize the signs of abuse from her domestic partner! This was a very well written story about a childhood stolen and most of all it's a journey about learning how to value yourself. When you are raised to believe you are worthless, it makes it hard for you to stand up for yourself. Thank you for sharing your story.

Heart wrenching story
Revisado: 06-09-22
First, it is VERY GRAPHIC. Not for everyone. I can handle a lot of graphic things, but there were parts of it that literally made me feel sick. But I also think there is some importance in knowing all the details the author shares. She is so so brave to recount this terrible story. This man is literally the most evil man I've ever heard of and I hope he pays for the life he sucked out of this woman with 13 years of abuse and torture. To some, the end might not have a great resolution, but the fact the she was able to escape and put all of this into words is astounding.

Historia
Psychiatrist Dr. Gwen Moore is an expert on killers. She’s spent a decade treating California’s most depraved predators and unlocking their motives - predators much like the notorious Bloody Heart serial killer, whose latest teenage victim escaped and then identified local high school teacher Randall Thompson as his captor. The case against Thompson as the Bloody Heart Killer is damning - and closed, as far as Gwen and the media are concerned. If not for one new development.

Great story with an original plotline
Revisado: 12-17-21
Very good book. I'm usually pretty good at predicting the twist but this one was out of left field in a good way. I love books where the characters display detrimental flaws, and the two main characters are brought together by deep, dark internal flaws... highly recommended!!

Loved it. In the beginning, I had no idea where this book was going, but I loved where it took me. I found myself constantly wondering about the book until I finished it! It went somewhere completely unexpected and I love when books aren't so predictable. Very very good read.

Not great
Revisado: 03-26-21
I didn't find the story, the characters, or the situations to be believable. I feel like the author wanted me to believe that the protagonist was in a horribly dangerous and tortuous situation, but none of it was believable at all... There was a lot of talk about how terrible he was, but there were very few actions to support the theory that he was actually sadistic psycho. I know a lot of people liked the narration, but I found her voice annoying and her portrayal of Jack was entirely too monotone. Maybe that's how the author intended? But that's definitely not how I would have read his voice if I had read the book. The situations she was in were easily escapable, and there's no way she could fake being THAT happy with someone who is supposedly a psychopath.
Spoiler warning
Also, his plan to imprison and torture her sister was never clear? Like it was a plan, but there were no real details besides details about WHERE he was going to keep her. Like I know people don't want too many details about imprisoning and torturing a young girl with down's syndrome, but maybe a hint of what he was planning to do would have made the protagonists fear a little more realistic. Like maybe include details about what makes him sadistic and psychotic rather than just labeling him as such.
