Historia
On the night Rune’s life changed forever, blood ran in the streets. Now, in the aftermath of a devastating revolution, witches have been diminished from powerful rulers to outcasts ruthlessly hunted due to their waning magic, and Rune must hide what she is. Spending her days pretending to be nothing more than a vapid young socialite, Rune spends her nights as the Crimson Moth, a witch vigilante who rescues her kind from being purged. When a rescue goes wrong, she decides to throw the witch hunters off her scent and gain the intel she desperately needs by courting the handsome Gideon Sharpe.

well written and thought out story
Revisado: 03-20-25
a little heavier on the romance than I usually like, but the story was intriguing and believable, if a little too predictable. There was some convenient and nonsensical illusion magic that absolutely didn't add up towards the end but overall I liked that magic had a cost. the narrator was excellent.

Historia
Twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange powers she possesses or the fact that she has been picking pockets and stealing from the Undying Queen's reservoirs for as long as she can remember. But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it is bound to come undone. When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently reopens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. The Fae have always been the stuff of myth, of legend, of nightmares… but it turns out they're real.

did people just like the sex?
Revisado: 03-10-25
because the sex scenes are unique in how explicit they are (describing veins and whatnot) but the rest of the story is worse than just tropey, it's insultingly stupid. the very best example....the fate of the world rest on a coin flip bet (bad enough), but doh!....the antagonist didn't let the coin land and hid it in a labyrinth. are you kidding me right now? I BARELY had the stomach to finish the book but I powered through and I'm that much dumber for it.

A children's book
Revisado: 01-17-25
Be kind and don't judge a book by it's cover, mmmkay. Except this book. The cover looks a bit like a Dr Seuss book and the story has about as much depth. If you want an easy read with throw away characters and a saccharin, no risk story...this might be the book for you.

Protagonist was unlikeable, story was convoluted and immature
Revisado: 12-28-24
This book was not good. I didn't realize it was young adult, but it must be. The author uses anachronisms like "uber" and "crack" (the drug) in what is a standard traditional (medieval) fantasy world with magic, which took me completely out of a story I was already struggling with due to any annoying protagonist.

heavy on [boring] romance, light on story
Revisado: 11-03-24
aimless story full of unimaginative witch and vampire tropes. the romance isn't even good. it's mostly constant unhealthy bickering. I quit reading after having to endure multiple chapters describing their unparalleled love only to have her get kidnapped and require no convincing whatsoever that her lover is a murdererous vampire who doesn't care about her.

Fairy tale tropes galore
Revisado: 06-18-24
started okay but got very predictable. Beauty and the Beast and Rumpelstiltskin basically. lots of the story didn't make much sense and seemed excessively contrived and all too convenient. the lead up to the "evil queen" antagonist was just too much. we get it, she's super evil does evil stuff just for fun. the whole curse and then trial and riddle was very tropey.

Historia
From the Audie-nominated narrator of The Martian. In eleven years' time, a million members of an alien race will arrive at Earth. Years before they enter orbit, their approach will be announced by the flare of a thousand flames in the sky, their ships' huge engines burning hard to slow them from the vast speeds needed to cross interstellar space. These foreboding lights will shine in our night sky like new stars, getting ever brighter until they outshine even the sun, casting ominous shadows and banishing the night until they suddenly blink out.

tough read if you know anything about networking and computers
Revisado: 04-29-24
the computer hacking was so laughable. The author should have consulted a computer scientist before publishing this implausible stuff.. ruined the book for me since its the foundation for the whole attack. they used vibrations? to do what exactly? it's the equivalent of reading ancient runes by smelling them. That isn't scifi, it's fantasy. Might as well drop some malware using an elvish lullaby.

Hugo nominee? How?
Revisado: 03-13-24
being narrated by the author absolutely did not help, but the story was not compelling to me. I did not like any of the characters. I even managed to dislike the dog through association. I am flabbergasted that this book was a Hugo award nominee.

Historia
The boy has lived his whole life trapped within a book-choked chamber older than empires and larger than cities. The girl has been plucked from the outskirts of civilization to be trained as a librarian, studying the mysteries of the great library at the heart of her kingdom. They were never supposed to meet. But in the library, they did. Their stories spiral around each other, across worlds and time. This is a tale of truth and lies and hearts, and the blurring of one into another.

unique story but confusing
Revisado: 02-17-24
I'm not really a fan of stories involving time travel, and I l found the library itself to be unbelievable. like the author can't decide if this is a sci-fi or fantasy book. attempts are made to explain it, but they fail and feels almost like a thing of religion rather than science or even fantasy. I enjoyed most of the book.
